,.
t?
Weber Automotive, Inc., 23779 Lorain Road.
Wall sign.
This is a replacement sign which will have the Kendall Motor Oil logo on it, Mr. Gallagher stated that
frequently a company will give the sign to the dealer if their logo can be displayed. Mr. Yager
questioned if there was somewhere else that this sign could be used. Mr. Weber, the owner, responded
that there will be nothing else on that wall except this sign, which is their standard logo and there is no
other sign choice. He clarified that the building is offwhite with brown siding. The members clisagreed
on whether or not a registered logo had to be accepted, considering that the smaller businesses had been
disapproved and they might need a logo more. Mr. Weber advised that they are trying to gain
recognition that they were part of the Kendall association. He also stated that this was not a cartoon
character. Mr. Yager responded that, as far as he is concerned,:all logos are cartoon characters, unless
they can be incorporated in the wording of the sign. Mr. Gallagher explained that giving someone a
sign, if they used their logo, had been done for years, and there used to be logos all up and down the
road which is what the board is trying to get away from. Mr. Weber stated that there are logos all up
and down Lorain Road now, and some of them are brand new; he questioned why he was different. Mr.
Yager stated that this board only recommends, and the conversations about logos only started recently.
Mr. Weber mentioned that Ethan Allan's logo was new. He was advised that this board had rejected the
logo, but board of zoning appeals had approved it. W. Woost, sign contractor, asked if it would be
acceptable to use the words "A Division of Kendall Oil". The members would have no problem with
that. Mr. Weber does not know if this could be modified. Mr. Woost doubted that Kendall Oil would
give them a sign without the logo. Assistant Building Commissioner Rymarczyk explained that if they
conform to the size allowed and they come in with just words on the sign, it would not have to go to
another board. M. Yager moved to accept the Weber Automotive, Inc. sign as presented with the
following restriction, that they elimiuate the logo and look into a secondary line that would hopefully
solve their hardship. The motion was seconded by T. Gallagher. Roll call on motion: Yager, Gallagher,
Krieger -and Zergott, yes. Mr. Liggett, no. Motion carried.
N. OLD BUSINESS:
Mr. Yager asked if the Soccer Zone building had been approved as it was originally presented since it
was on Lorain Road and very visible. He was advised that it had been approved.
V. NEW BUSINESS:
1) Marriott Courtyard Hotel, permanent parcel 236-17-004, building located on Country Club
Boulevard, east of Lone Star Steak House.
Proposal to construct hotel in Mixed Use District. Prelimiuary Land Use plan heard by plauning
commission on January 23, 1996.
Heard by board of zoning appeals April 17, 1996.
Referred by planniug commission Apri130, 1996.
Mr. Moluse, arclutect, presented a colored rendering and explained that this type facility is not a full
service hotel, there is no, dining room service, only a breakfast bar, and no extensive conference
facilities, only some meeting rooms. The building will front on Country C1ub Boulevard with two drives
which lead to the port cochere which is in front of the registration lobby.
