?,.
stated that they would come in 15 cars. Mr. Purper believed that this could cause a real traffic jam.
Mr. Gomersall suggested that they get a bus. Mr. Miller pointed out that they were asking for
variances on top of variances that were previously granted. Mr. Purper asked if the board could give
a variance for just a few extra spaces. Mr. Gomersall noted that there was no place else for them to
park. Mr. Kevin Wyman, a member of the congregation, was sworn in at this time. He explained that
many of the members lived within walking distance, and their main objection is to meet there without
breaking the law. At present the occupancy is 49, and they can fit 99 in the building. They are willing
to guarantee that there will be no traffic d.isruptions. W. Purper wondered how ma.ny people could
wa1k. Since the church is very family oriented, most families come in one vehicle, he brings his family
of six in one car. Law Director Gareau asked how this request came before the board. Normally, if a
church gets more members, it is considered to be a good thing. No one knows how many people
attend in a given day. The members asked to increase the occupancy of their build.ing. Mr. K Wyman
stated that this is not their main hall, this is a satellite, and they are hoping to renovate the main ha1L
Mr. G. Wyman stated that when they meet in the big hallthey all go there in 15 vehicles, mostly vans.
The Grayton Road facility will accommodate both congregations. Mr. G. Wyuian stated that they
would like to meet in North Olmsted occasionally, and will have to meet here when they renovate the
Grayton Road church. It was clarified that in order to get their occupancy increased, they have to get
their parking increased. Mr. Gareau stated that no one counts the members, if 55 people came, no one
would say they violated the code. Mr. G. Wymau stated that technically they would be breaking the
law. The building would accommodate 100 people with a few changes, the air handling system and
some hardware would have to be changed. W. Maloney figured that, with families of four, they
would need 12 additional spaces and there is no room to put them They still maintain that there
would only be •15 cars for the whole congregation. Mr. Maloney wondered if they could extend their
spaces to havetandem parking, that way they could add about 6 spaces. The members discussed this.
Assistant Building Commissioner Rymarczyk suggested that they would have to submit a plan, and
perhaps it could go through planning commission as a minor change. After some discussion, it was
decided to grant a temporary variance for 6 months, so they could try it and see if they had problems.
They would have to come back in six months, and if the parking is sufficient, the board could grant
the variance. Mr. Gareau suggested that they come back with an appropriate plan to come closer to
the code requirements. Mr. G. Wymau stated that they had already talked with their neighbors and no
one objected. (No neighbors were present). If they get a temporary variance, Mr. Miller asked if they
would be able to get a temporary occupancy. Mr. Rymarczyk stated that they would have to change
the air handling system and make a few other changes. Mr. Gareau believed that if the variance is
granted, they would not have to do anykliing for six months. Mr. Rymarczyk pointed out that they
would be in violation of the building codes and they might have to go to Board of Building Code
Appeals in Columbus. The design of the bu.ilding will handle that number of people, but the air
handling system would have to be upgraded. The building was reviewed by their architect and Mr.
Rymarczyk stated that without changing some things, they could not raise the occupancy to 82
people.
R. Gomersall moved to grant a 6 month, temporary variance to have 20 parking spaces less than
required for the Christian Meeting Corporation, 4751 Clague Road. The motion was seconded by P.
Miller, and unanimously approved. Variance granted.
Josephine Botoman, 6092 South Porter Road.
Request for variance (1123.12). Request 45 square foot variance for area of shed that exceeds the
maximum 2% ofthe rear yard. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1135.02(d-1).
