NOR'TH OLMSTED LANDMARKS COMMITTEE
Meeting of July 17, 1986
PRESENT: Chairperson Sharon Flemming, Lois Van Auken, Julie Brown, Betty Lord,
and Gloria Sell.
The meeting was called to order at 8:15.
The minutes from the May 15th, 1986 meeting were approved by a motion from Lois
that was seconded by Betty.
OLD BUSINESS: It was noted that in the NOLC's copy of the Butternut District
Ordinance the revision on page 3, Number 11 was missing. It should read "The
Landmarks Commission shall recognize the official Landmark District."
The Butternut Ordinance tivas approved Tuesday June 17, 1986 in Council by
an unanimous vote.
Budget: Sharon announced that the NOLC budget for this year was cut from last year
to $1,080.00 and that approximately $974.00 remained. She suggested that most of the
funds should be spent for Historic District Plaques.
Carpenter House: The Historic Plaque is on the Carpenter House now and there is
positive news about saving and moving the house. The Carpenter House received a
Grant from the Gund Foundation and the house will possibly be moved by the end
oi August or the beginning of September this year.
Bud Becker, Safety Director for North Olmsted, attended the NOLC meeting and
discussed some aspects of the work that is ahead before the Carpenter House can
be moved. Bud described four items that need to be addressed:
1.) Inspection by N.O.'s Building Inspectors
2.) Meeting with the Board of Building Code Appeals
3.) A permit must be acquired by the mover and bond must be posted
4.) The moving routes must be planned.
Bud suggested moving the Carpenter House at night to avoid problems and traffic.
Also, the N.O. Mayor has requested that the House's basement be moved too. Sharon
assured Bud that that was already planned.
It was noted that the Board of Building Code Appeals won't meet until August.
The Carpenter House will be given to the Olmsted Historical Society and will
become part of Frostig. Sharon stated that she will provide the OHS with the
necessary information.
Trees for N.O.; The city is going to present a contest for the oldest or biggest
tree in N.O.
