SPECIAL GUEST
Bob introduced Mr. William Aftora from Impact signs. Mr. Aftora
is the President of Impact Signs. Impact has made signs for
various cities including the "[n1e16ome.. to Lakewood" signs. Sharon
had met with Mr. Aftor.a earlier and discussed what type of signs
we needed for the Butternut Historic District. At this earlier
meeting Mr. Aftora offered to make some preliminary sketches
and bring some examples of his work.
Mr..Aftora recommended that the'sign be made of redwood (which
is one of the hardest woods). He suggested that the sign be
4-5 feet wide by 2-2-1/2 feet high and 2-1/2 inches thick mounted
on 2 posts. The process for manufacturing the sign is to cover
the surface with a plastic compound and to "Burn" in an impres-
sion (lettering and design) with a"Sand Blaster". The cost
of the sign would be approximately $1,000.00. Mr. Aftora also
presented a book of sketches and a sketch for the Butternut
Historical sign (See Attached EXHIBIT "A").
1) NUMBER OF SIGNS
Mike suggested that 3 signs would be needed and Bob discussed
the possibility of more signs might be needed at busy intersec-
tions. Betty suggested that we start with 2 signs - one on
each end of Butternut Ridge Road along with customized street
namesigns at all intersections.
2) SITE OF THE SIGNS
The LC felt that 5 feet wide was too wide for the sign.
It was generally decided that the ideal size would be in the
neighborhood of 3 feet by 3 feet.
3) DESIGN OF THE SIGN
Betty suggested that there be a Butternut Tree leaf design
on the sign.
Mike recommended that .the wording "BUTTERNUT RIDGE HISTORIC
DISTRICT" appear on the face of the sign so as to distinguish
the area as a Historic District and not just a street name.
The face of the sign should have large lettering for
HISTORIC DISTRICT" and the type of lettering should be distinct
so as to facilitate legibility.
An example of sign shapes are attached as EXHDIT" "B".
-2-
