tlN KNQX
UNflFED
PRESBYTERIAN
CHURCH
Mr. James Burns, Chairman
North Olmsted Planning Commission
3978 Dover Center Road
North Olmsted, Ohio 44070
De ar Mr. Burns:
July 18, 1986
I will be on vacation on July 22, when the Planning Commission will be
holding a hearing re: Hennie Homes proposal to build adjacent to the John
Knox Church. I would appreciate yowc reading a few words which represent
my thoughts. .
The question has been asked of ine: Why do you and the members of John
Knox Church oppose the Hennie Homes proposal?
Years ago, when the extension of State Route 252 northward was proposed,
it was understood that there would be a 50-foot set-bac}c from that major high-
way. Both city officials and the Ohio Department of Transporation told us tliis;
and we complied with this informaticn by having our architect re-draw our Master
Plan. We haje copies of our check and letter to prove that payment was given for
this service.
It was believed at that tiae that the property now owned by Hennie Homes
lacked sufficient set-back for building purnoses. Z'herefore, our church sanctuary,
which is 60-feet from the northernmost point of the Hennie Homes property, would
not be hindered by a home, commercial building, or apartment house. 2'he Master
Plan was approved.with this understanding. -
Now it appears that this property may have erected on it a commercial establish-
ment which is. 20-feet closer to the planned 252, and that the proposal will place
a dumpster 60-feet from our sanctuary! I believe you will understand that our
congregation is upset! We cannot imagine that what we have worked and paid for
on a volunteer basis will now be damaged by commercial interests:
We have also raised the problem of another driveway on Lorain Road. We have
found this to be a most difficult problem for us, and we wait impatiently for the
construction of 252, which will give us another entrance and exit. But to add one
more driveway-also adds to the confusion! We are concerned....
In our effort to assess the leadership of the City of North Olmsted, including
the Safety Forces, we have discovered almost unanimous concern about the Hennie
Homes proposal. Z'here is a feeling that this will not enhance the safety and wel-
fare of the city. So we do not stand alone in our concern!
Of course, ure believe that laws and regulations are important for the welfare
of the community -- and-this includes the protection of those who desire to build
a commercial enterprisee We have attempted to raise points which relate directly
to these laws and regulations.
25I00 LORAIN ROAD • NORTH OLM.STED, OHIO 44070 • 216r777-3744
Pastor.
