NORTH OIA7STID LANI]MARKS C7aimISSION ANN[JAL REPORT - cantinued... <br />In November a public meeting was held to share the information gathered <br />during the grant period with owners of surveyed properties and interested <br />residents. A standing-roc¢n only crowd saw a short.slide presentation before <br />Canmission me.?nbers shared all infonnation with individual awners. Many of those <br />present sha.red their knowledge to add to the grawing file for each property. <br />Civic awarnness, an ongoing goal of the Lancimarks Cmunissian, was certainly <br />heightened as a result of this well attended meeting. <br />Zb share the newly acquired inforniation; grant gackets were presented tA <br />Planning C.cemdssion, Architectural Board of Review, Building Department, Engineem- <br />ing Department and the North Olmsted City Council. In addition a grant packet is <br />prepared for the North Olmsted Public Li brary and the Olmsted Historical Society. <br />In October, Don Copeland, Director of the Departrnent of Hiunan Resources, who <br />had senved as project director throughout the grant period, was infornled that ad- <br />ditional moneys could possibly be made available to North Olmsted through tne <br />Ohio Historic Preservation Office because of the extent of volunteer time given <br />to canplete the grant. Through his efforts and the additional docuTentation of <br />previously undeclared personnel costs, the Ohio Historic Preservation Office <br />granted North Olmsted an additional return of $1349, over and above the original <br />grant agreement. <br />Z'hrougnout the year additional events occurred involving the Landmarks <br />Camission. Several slide presentations were made to ccmunity groups. Donations <br />were made to the City Archives located in the Landnarks office in the basement of <br />Old Town Hall. The Archive office was organized to facilitate acquisition of <br />additional archival materials. North Olmsted Iandnarks Cacnnission acted as a <br />resource to local people needing infornnation.about the history of North 07msted, <br />restoration of local historic builclings, and how to docunent the age of a building. <br />The need for a restoration.plan for the North Olmsted Ccennunity Cabin was recognized. <br />The renovation of Zbwn Hall using Conmunity Development Block Grant funds <br />continued. Following the master plan ooirpleted by Rflbert C. Gaede, of Robert <br />C. Gaede, Architects, in November, 1983, the mneys were used to continue upr <br />grading the exterior of the building. This years projects were restaration of <br />the chi.nmey and extensive foundation and window well repairs. Drain tiles were <br />added to prevent further interior danage. Erterior painting of the trim was <br />completed. As additional mney is.available the restoration of Zbwn Hall will <br />continue. <br />- Repaired road site markers were finally replaced at Butternut Ridge Cemetery <br />and North O]msted Library by the North Olmsted Service Departrnent. <br />- The randmarks Cammission planted and maintained flowers at front of Old Zbwm <br />Hall as a part of 'Clean-up North 0]msted' sponsored by the City. <br />- In November a presentation was made to the North O]msted Planning Ccimnission <br />on the proposed North Olmsted Landnark Distxict to be knoHm as Butternut Ridge <br />Road Historic District. It was requested tha.t the Planning Camnission, per <br />North 0]msted Ordinance, react to suclz a district in terms of planning. A <br />letter supporting the Butternut Ridge Road Historic District was received frc¢n <br />tize Planning Commission. <br />- 2 -
