Horvath, W. Wasniak, and E. Graves
R. Bugala arrived at 7:40 p.m.
C. Remmel clarified the Minutes of February 3, 1982 to specify
that the variances for Owens Air Conditioning and H V A C Supply
were approved for two 8'x 2'signs (one for each business). L.
Horvath moved to approve the Minutes of February 3, 1982 as
corrected, seconded by E. Graves, and unanimously approved.
1. National City Bank; 23124 Lorain Rd.
Request for variance (1133.13). Request variance for second
pole sign on one lot. Violation of Ord. 62-33, Section 1221.06B4..
Chairman Remmel called all interested parties before the Board.
The oath was administered. It was noted that one gr6und sign
at the Lorain Rd. exit blocks vision and possibly should be
lowered. Representatives from National City Bank stated that
? they would lower the sign. The representatives explained that
they wanted the pole sign with the logo of Natinnal City Bank
on it, since the logo on the front of the building was not
too visable from Lorain Rd. Mr. Graves and Mr. Bugala both
were in agreement that other signs were visible from Lorain
Road coming from both directions and they did not believe that
the pole sign was needed. The building sits out from the others
in the plaza and there are signs on four sides of the building.
They.,do not feel that there is a hardship involved. The bank's
representatives stated that their corporate logo is only over
the front entrance and does not stand out and they wanted to
display their logo so that it would tie into their advertising.
Mr. Remmel stated that there will be another shopping plaza on
the opposite corner which may obscurethe signs, and that there
is another bank sign on the propert;y and he believes that •
National City shoud be treated as a separate entity. Mr. Bugala
stated that when the bank•was-being built, the developers were
well aware that they could not install another pole sign on
the property. L. Horvath moved to grant the variance. Roll
call on motion. Harvath and Remmel, aye. Wasniak, Bugala,
and Graves, Nay. Motion failed to pass. Variance denied.
While inspecting the Rini°s property, Mr. Remmel noticed a
City of North Olmsted sign that is on the tree lawn which does
iiot seem to conform to the other City signs, and is not placed
at the boundry of the City. The Service Departnent will be
asked to check into it.
