The
second story addition will be used for storage at Present,
but may eventually be rented as ofFice space. One vent will
be on the roof and the air condit:ioning unit will be at the
rear of the building. S. Ebin moved to approve the Heyduk
Florists plans as submitted, seconded by R. Parry, and unani-
mously approved.
Mr.s. 7,mic11 complained thaL the tempor?ir.y sign and the pennants
at the driveway of the Hyde Park Condominiums, which abutts
their property, obscures their building and she does not like
the impression they create.
In reference to the above complaint, Mr. Parry mentioned the
letter in the Westlife Dover Diggins column critizing the
condition of Lorain Rd. Mr. Parry stated that there must be
30 businesses on Lorain Road with illegal pennants, streamers,
and temporary signs. Specifically, Loony Bens has temporary
signs and placards, Sparks Tune Up, Crestmont, and many others
have streamers and banners. Mr. Parry stated that he will
abstain from voting on future sign applications since it is
unfair that some people go through the legal procedures to
obtain signs, while others put up what they want to and they
are not stopped. After a discussion on procedt.ires that are
used to cite businesses violating, the Sign Ordinance, R. Parry
moved to recommend, in light of the continuing bad publicity
that the City is receiving on having a carnival like or honky
tonk business section, that City Council pass an Ordinance
setting a fine, such as $100.00 per day, for illegal signs in
ttie L'ity, and ttiat tlle revenues Lrom these fines be used to
hire an inspector to enforce the sign codes. Also, since the
Sign Ordinance does not outlaw flags, it should be amended to
prohibit all flags except National, State, or City flags, se-
conded by M. Case, and unanimously approved. Mr. Parry also
suggestod that the City should look into what other communi-
ties do to keep streets free of illegal sings, banners, and
pennants.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:35 p.m.
M.
