`e <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ARCHITECTURAL BOARD OF REVIEW <br />MINUTES - AUGUST 18, 1980 <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pem. <br />Present: M. Case, C. Petrowski, D. Williams, and R. Parry <br />Also Present: B. Oring <br />II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES: <br />Under New Biisiness, Section (a) Signs: Wa11 Papers to Go. Delete the <br />word background. C. Petroski moved to accept the Minutes of July 21, <br />1980 .as corrected, seconded by M. Case, and unanimously approved. <br />III. NEW BUSINESS: <br />Signs: <br />(a) Shell Oil Co. (J. Armbruster), 23385 Lorain Rd. Reader Sign <br />(4 sq. ft. variance granted by the Board of Zoning Appeals on <br />July 2, 1980). <br />R. Parzy questioned the need for a variance and what hardship <br />was involved. D. Williams moved to approve the yellow background and <br />the black letters but not the size, seconded by C. Petroski. <br />Roll Cal] o.n Motion: Parry, Williams, and Petroski, aye. <br />Case, Nay. <br />R. Parry stated that it would be more advantageous if some of <br />the items which need a variance could come to the Architectural <br />Board of Review first and perhaps they could help eliminate <br />that need, and that there was little value in reviewing after <br />a variance had been granted and that the Board of Zoning Appeals <br />should be the last place to appeal when all other channels fail. <br />D. Williams then stated there were many service stations which <br />have ninnerous signs in violation of the Ordinance (i.e. cigarette <br />signs, signs overhanging the sidewalk, and he feels that this <br />is a problem of enforcing the existing Ordinances. He also <br />noted that the Shell Station has planted trees that were not on <br />the landscape plan. <br />Lata`son's, 25766 Lorain Rd., Replacement Wall Sd.gn. <br />D. Williams moved to approve the Lawsons sign provided that the <br />sign conforms taith all codes, seconded by C. Petroski, and <br />unanimously approved.
