?
? a
v ?
ARCHITECTURAL BOARD OF RGVIEW DECEMBER 17, 1979 PAGE 2
Carpet Warehouse (Bob Cutler Signs), 24601 Lorain Rd. Replacement
Pole Sign and Facia Sigs (repainted without a permit). Motion made
to recommend denial of all signs until such time as all the other
potential violations have been examined by the Building Department and
reviewed, specifically: the permanently painted window signs, the
pennants in front of the building, and the mobile van signs ( 2 vans
with advertising are illegally parked in the front set b ack area).
(c) Case heard before item (b).
Police Station Privacy Screen, 27243 Lorain Rd. It was explained
th at this fence is to be installed to reduce vandalism to police
vehicles, and also, to obstruct the view from Lorain Rd. the number
of police cars parked at the station. The Board questioned the
compatibility of the residential-type, redwood basket weave fence to
the building itself. It was suggested that a brick wall or another
type commercial fence (vertical or horizontal slats in metal) fin-
ished to match the police station exterior would be more appropriate.
It was moved to approve the Police Station Privacy Screen in concept
with the recoimnendations that they investigate other alternatives,
something more maintenance free, or if a wood is used that a dif-
ferent style more in conformance with the b uilding and stained in a
darker color with specifications as to how it is to be installed in
the ground (thickness of concrete, etc), and with the suggestion
that someting be choosen in a metal mesh.
(b) TGI Friday Restaurant, Great Northern 14all, Space D100. Mr. Lee
Good introduced the plans. The outside addition wi11 be asphalt
sloping roof with shake-like shingles, and b rick (to match the ex-
isting brick on the mall) with double hung windows with red and
white striped awnings. The only entrance is on the outside of the
mall. In order to construct the addition some of the sidewalk will
be removed. It was -suggested that the landscaping could be re-
designed, that some of the existing planters could be moved closer
to the window area (in planters) to allow more room for sidewalk
area. C. Petroski questioned if the canvass ceiling would meet
the fire code. Mr. Good stated that the building materials were
treated to be fire resistant and there were sprinkler systems
through out. R. Parry suggested that the awnings, window treatment
(which is TGI Friday's trademark) and shingles could be on the in-
side of the mall but they are not in keeping with the exterior
appearance of the existing building. There is no additional lighting
included in the plan except at the entrances, and since the restau-
rant will be open much later than the rest of the mall, it was
suggested that the mall submit a special lighting p lan. Signage is
still to be woriced out and submitted at a later date by Great
Northern Mall management. R. Parry moved that the plans for TGI
Friday not be approved as submitted, and that they be resubmitted
to the Board at the next meeting with whatever revisions that the
architect-applicant wish to present and specific concerns are the
sloped asphalt-shingled roof, the red and white canopies, signage,
lighting (the Ma.ll's committment to all-night lighting) and the
redesign of the landscaping and sidewalk along the mall, seconded
