Repxesentiizg the appellant were Nlessrsa Cummings and Thomas. Mr. Gundy
remarked that the old Ordinance prohibited roof signs9 as a non-permitted
use. The discussion brought out that the proposed sign and its location
would abscure other merchants° signs currently in use on the property,
and that a smaller sign would be more desirableo AZr. Cummings agreed.
Mr. Kli.nite moved to grant the variance provided the sign was reduced
in size to 10' x 41, and that it would be built as a projecting sign mounted
on the f ront wall of the building, aizd the bottom edge of it would rest on
the capstone. Mrs. Eian secon.ded. Vote was unanimous.
4. Appellanto Mre William B. Pate, 28786 Lynhaven Drive, North 0].msted, 0.
Ref: Request to erect a temporary sign, 16' x 121, a:t the southwest
corner of Christman Drive and Lorain Road, which would descriUe
the Bretton Ridge Subdivision, which is in violation of Zoning
Ordinance 62-33, Section 1225.01, which restricts size of signs.
Mr. pate and ivIr. Saul Biskind represented the a ppellant. Mr. Gundy
began the discussion by saying the Board would have to interpret the
Ordinailce as to whether a residential district which is zoned for com-
mexcial business development is to b e considered a residential district
or a commercial business district, as the proposed location of the sign
would be less than the required distance from an occupied home in a
residential district.
Mr. Biskiild said the Bretton Ridge development is four subdivisioiis.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Simmons, 29603 Lorain Road, were present and both
expressed opposition to the sign because of its large size. Niro Aa1:e
said Mr. William Stark, 29645 Lorain Road, who would be closest to the
sign, had no objections. NIr. Biskind suggested a reduction of size to
lOt x 141, Mr. Klinite observed that, because of the several subdivi-
sions involved, each one could have a sign, which in total would have
more square footage than the one large sign under coilsideration, and
suggested that the lights for the sign be turned of£ eaclz nig:nt at a
reasonable hour. This w.as mutually agreeable.
Mr. Klinite moved to grant the request for the sign, to be limited to
10' x 141 in size, and that the lights for it be turned off at midnight.
i?re Greene seconded.
