?
of X???h (ID.Cxaoftb, 040
?
e,ct,v
May 24, 1966 - page 3
Mr. Storch described the location of the schools and indi-
cated that the building of these schools was possible because of ?
the $9955000 bond issue passed in November 1965. He indicated it
was a'backward way of doing this, i.e., passing the money issue and
now fitting the buildings to the money available.
The plans were started in October or November of '65 to
develop educati.onally- these two proposed schoolS.> The arcbitects
have just eorr, pleted the prelin?inary plans. The two buildings will
have each 14 classrcoms, the basic central units of an all-purpose
room, an office suite, toilet facilities, two kindergartes included
in the 14. These'will be expandable to actually 18 classrooms,
three kindergarters, or a 21-classroom building.
It is proposed to build the first two stages at this time.
This is so because of the limited funds and the cost per square
foot, but the design, it is hoped, will accomplish the desire
educationally in the buildings.
Mr. Lesko then presented some details as to the design o-f
the schools, saying that they are designed basically -for flexibility
and to relate esthetically to the surrounding terrain and ap.pear-
ance of residential build up, The buildings will'be,.constructed
of textured brick with modified mansard roofs and overharigs. The
all-purpose room is to be sunk below ground level and can be con-
verted to an auditorium.
Mr. Lesko said that there were many trips made to the site to ascertain exactly where the most desireable and economic place
to construct the buildings because of the terrain. I.t is heavily
wooded and adjacent are the famous North Olmsted ditehes perrrtea-king
throughout the whole area.
So they chose the most convenient sites for the buildings where
it would cost the least to constri-ict, overcoming as best as possible
such things as tree removal, foot bridges over the ditches.and the
like. The parking facilities Will be limited presently because
of the lack of funds, but will be expanded in the future when
funds and the demand exists.
From questioning by the members present it was ascertained
that the mansard, shake roofs would last many, many years.. As far
as the safety features were concerned, it Was expl4inecj that There would bQ exits from each roQm; not aTI entrance just'an qxit. The
walls,4r to construatiop, are masonry because of code, requirements,
with stepl bar joistS as an architectural treatmeTit.
