r
Olmsted Historical Societv and Frostville Museum
The City of North Olmsted is fortunate to have an active historical society. The Olmsted
Historical Society, recognized in 2010 by First Lady Michelle Obama as a Preserve America
Steward, operates the Frostville Museum, which is located in North Olmsted within the
boundaries of the Rocky River Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks. The Museum consists
of several of the oldest historic homes of North Olmsted. Many of these have been moved to
the site over the last 50 years.
The Olmsted Historical Society hosted its second annual weekly summer farmers market each
Saturday from May through October. Also, Frostville hosted the second Olmsted Festival of the
Arts, a merger of two past arts events, with the support of a project support grant from
Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.
It is also worthwhile to note that Landmarks Commission member and Olmsted Historical
Society archivist Dale Thomas had another book published in 2012. Lincoln's Old Friends of
Menard County, Illinois is a record of Lincoln's arrival in Illinois and those who played important
roles in his early years.
GoaLs FoR 2013
In addition to the goals listed in the City's 2009 Historic Preservation Plan, the Landmarks
Commission has specific pr.iorities for 2013, which include the following:
• Prepare a detailed report for the potential landmark designation of 4302 Porter Road and
30095 Lorain Road. Continue to identify potential landmarks and eligible properties for
historic recognition plaques.
• Using the completed survey and OHI forms as a tool, develop a prioritized list of the most
historically significant structures in the City, identify potential threats to them, and create a
plan for their preservation.
• Plan for educational events for both Commission members and the general public.
Schedule a field trip to the Parker Ranch. Consider organizing an event with an aviation
theme which could cover the National Air Races, Cleveland's role in aviation and Jimmy
Doolittle. .
• Continue work on the North Olmsted Cemetery Improvement Project.
• Improve information available to the public through the Landmarks Commission webpage
on the City of North Olmsted website.
