... . _.: *Ib.
building. Sings #1 are illuminated and signs 43 are non-illuminated molded letters.
Mr. Mitchell said variances are required as no variances were previously granted. Board
members felt the stark white background would be too bright and questioned the color of the
building trim. Mr. Span said the buildings trim is a beige color and the backer could be colored
to match the beige trim. Mr. Mitchell said a new color rendering and color samples would have
to be submitted. Mr. Lopez said what is being proposed is a significant change. The backer is
very stark regardless of the color. The proximity of the building to the street and residential area
the signs will adversely affect the character of the neighborhood, integrity of the buildings
historic design and vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The adverse impact upon the city, residents
and historic district outweighs the applicant's corporate conformance. Ms. Rudolph, Ms. Bellido
and Mr. Raig said if the backer was painted beige they would have no objections. Mr. Lopez
noted that LED lights could be brighter then the current signs depending on the luminaries used.
Mr. Raig moved, seconded by Ms. Bellido, to grant CVS Pharmacy of 27713 Lorain Road
the following variances:
1. A 1 ft. variance for a wall sign higher than code allows (North sign); code permits 4 ft.,
applicant shows 5 ft., Section 1163.28(c).
2. A 1 ft. variance for a wall sign higher than code allows (West sign); code permits 4 ft.,
applicant shows 5 ft., Section 1163.28(c).
3. A 72 sq. ft. variance for excessive sign area (1>lorth wall sign); code permits 100 sq. ft.,
applicant shows 172 sq. ft., Section 1163.28(c).
4. A 72 sq. ft. variance for excessive sign area (West wall sign); code permits 100 sq. ft.,
applicant shows 172 sq. ft., Section 1163.28(c).
5. A variance for 2 additaonal wall signs; code permits 2, applicant shows 4, Section
1163.28(a).
6. A 237 sq. ft. variance for excessive wall signage on a building; code permits 170 sq. ft.,
applicant shows 407 sq. ft., Section 1163.25(b).
The motion is conditioned upon the sign backer color matching the existing cornices and
trim color on the building. Roll call: Lopez, Diver - no; Raig, Bellido, Rudolph - yes.
Motion passed 3-2.
ADJOiIRNMENT
With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 pm.
J n fer Rud 1, Chair
Approved:
Do ote, Clerlc of Commissions
