CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />A12TS COlVIMISSION <br />MINUTES OF OCTOBER 16, 2013 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Chairman Brake called the meeting to order at 6:31 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room. <br />Present: Bill Brake, JoAnn DePolo, Brad Doane, Lauren Suter, Coletta Strippy, David Wahl, <br />Annie Kilbane, Nicole McClain <br />Absent: Lisa Graff <br />Staff: Planning & Development Director Kim Wenger, Clerk of Commissions Donna Rote <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />Mr. Doane moved, seconded by Mr. Wahl, to approve the September 18, 2013 minutes, <br />which passed 7-0. <br />COMMUNITY NETWORKS <br />Members welcomed Executive Director Karen Gahl-Mills of Cuyahoga Arts and Culture. Ms. <br />Gahl-Mills said CAC's mission is to strengthen the cammunity by investing public funds in arts <br />and culture. The cigarette tax passed in 2006 and provides roughly $15 million a year which is <br />dedicated to arts and cultural pursuits throughout the county. CAC has provided funds to over <br />2,000 arts and cultural grours to date. To be eligible, applicants must be a 501(c)(3) non-profit <br />organization and submit an application which demonstrates arts and or cultural enrichment. <br />They encourage groups they meet to spread the word that they are available to assist those <br />seeking assistance in areas including dance, nature and science, visual media, community <br />education, fairs and festivals, music, history and theater. Ms. Wengei asked if the city could <br />sponsor or work with a non-profit group to seek funding and Ms. Gahl-Mills said the non-profit <br />would have to take the lead role and could not simply be a financial sponsor. She asked if the <br />commission was aware of any groups in the area which could benefit from their organization and <br />Ms. Wenger said the commission was working to reach out to groups in the area and the <br />Commission could share the information. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Holiday Tree Lightin? <br />Ms. Strippy said the tree lighting event was booked at Springvale for December 2 starting at <br />6:30pm. Springvale owns tvio 6 foot trees and would welcome any tree donations. Baker's <br />Square will provide desserts for the event. The City will purchase tablecloths, beverages, <br />containers for water, etc. Entertainment will include Santa, Olmsted Performing Arts dance <br />group, the Chestnut Orange and Black music group, North Olmsted Middle School brass group <br />and St. Brendon's sign language group. A child has been chosen to light the trees. Ms. Wenger <br />said she is in contact with the Sears's manager to see if they could donate a 12 foot feature tree. <br />Two community groups were approached about decorating the existing trees in a manner which
