CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ARTS COMMISSION <br />MINUTES OF AUGUST 21, 2013 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Chairman Brake called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room. <br />Present: Bill Brake, JoAnn DePolo, Brad Doane, Lisa Graff, Lauren Suter, Annie Kilbane, <br />Coletta Strippy, David Wahl <br />Absent: Nicole McClain <br />Staff: Planning & Development Director Kim Wenger, Clerk of Commissions Donna Rote <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF 10'IINUTES <br />Mr. Wahl moved, seconded by Mr. Doane, to approve the July 17, 2013 minutes which <br />passed 8-0. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Olmsted Festival of the Arts <br />Ms. Wenger summarized the event and feedback received from the electronic survey sent to <br />exhibitors. The children's area was well received so ways to expand it were discussed. Next <br />year's event could include volunteer booth sitters to provide vendors breaks where needed. <br />Exhibitors struggled with wireless connections, so a wifi sponsor may be sought to provide a <br />hotspot. The Commission discussed ways in which they could assist the festival committee in <br />promoting their event such as finding sponsors, providing on site help, reaching out to find more <br />exhibitors and assist with promoting the event. Planning would begin in February 2014, and <br />members of the Commission may join the festival committee. By the next meeting, preliminary <br />decisions would be made so information could be sent to the Ohio Arts Festivals Directory. <br />North Olmsted Homecoming: City Big Tent Event <br />Ms. Strippy said the theme for the City's big tent event at homecoming is Go Gaelic. Mark <br />Owens arranged to have some of the Gaelic players present to perform drills and be interviewed <br />by the DJ. Set up will begin at 3:00 pm and all volunteers are asked to wear orange, green and <br />white. There will be slushies for the kids and Giant Eagle and Mare's have donated treats. The <br />DJ will provide music, include kids' games, and raffle drawings. Raffle ticlcets will be available <br />for drawings and the larger prizes will be used in a trivia contest, Gaelic Game show. After <br />7:00pm, the community mural will be unveiled and Ms. DePolo will present it to the Mayor for <br />display at City Hall. <br />City Hall Art Gallery <br />The commission discussed promoting the call for artists through designing a flyer which can be <br />distributed throughout the city.
