CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ARTS COMMISSION <br />MINUTES OF JULY 17, 2013 <br />ROLL CALL <br />The meeting came to order at 6:30 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room. <br />Present: Bill Brake, JoAnn DePolo, Brad Doane, Lisa Graff, Annie Kilbane, Nicole McClain, <br />Coletta Strippy, David Wahl <br />Absent: Lauren Suter <br />Staff: Planning & Development Director Kim Wenger, Clerk of Commissions Donna Rote <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF 1VIINUTES <br />Mr. Wahl moved, seconded by Mr. Brake, to approve the June 19, 2013 minutes as written <br />which passed 8-0. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Olmsted Festival of the Arts <br />Sunday, August 11 <br />Ms. Wenger reviewed exhibitor submissions compared to previous years' figures. Vendors have <br />until August 2 to apply. There will be a press release the first week of August and this year there <br />will be a kids' area and more farmers market participants. Discussion included having an early <br />bird special or repeat entry specials to encourage artists and vendors to commit to returning next <br />year. Due to the timeframe members discussed looking at changing practices for the 2014 <br />festival. Ms. Wenger asked if inembers could personally contact former exhibitors to encourage <br />participation and several volunteered. Ms. DePolo suggested having a juried art show or having <br />a people's choice award at the festival to help draw more artists. Commissioners agreed that <br />having a children's area would help draw more families to the event and discussed crafts, games <br />and other ideas for next year's kids' area. <br />North Olmsted Homecomfng: City Big Tent Event <br />Friday, August 23 <br />Ms. Wenger said she would like input from the Commission on the theme for the Big Tent Event <br />which is Friday evening of Homecoming. She discussed past themes the city used. Ms. DePolo <br />suggested having the cominunity mural presented that evening. Ms. Suter suggested a sports <br />theme which the Coirunission developed into an event to tie into the upcoming Gaelic Games <br />which will take place in North Olmsted. Ideas included Irish themed music, sport <br />demonstrations, dancers, and decorations. Ms. Strippy will contact Mark Owen who is <br />spearheading the event to discuss ways in which the commission can help promote their event. <br />She will contact Giant Eagle who said they would like to contribute to the event as well. Mr. <br />Brake suggested having a video of Gaelic games running so visitors have an idea of what to <br />expect at the upcoming games. The commission believed that the cross promotion would be the
