CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ARTS COlVIMISSION <br />.IUNE 19, 2013 <br />MINUTES <br />ROLL CALL <br />The organizational meeting of the Arts Commission came to order at 6:30 p.m. in Council's <br />Caucus Room. <br />Present: Bill Brake, JoAnn DePolo, Brad Doane, Lisa Graff, Nicole 1VIcClain, Coletta Strippy, <br />Lauren Suter, David Wahl <br />Absent: Annie Kilbane <br />Staff: Planning & Development Director Kimberly Wenger <br />Members introduced themselves. The Mayor swore in the members of the North Olmsted Arts <br />Commission who then signed their oaths of office. <br />COMMISSIOIm1 ORGANIZATION <br />Contact sheets were distributed for members to provide contact information. The Commission's <br />codified responsibilities were reviewed. The group agreed to meet on the third Wednesday of <br />each month at 6:30 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room. <br />The Planning and Development Department provides staffing support for the Commission, <br />including meeting minutes and agendas. Members should contact the Clerk of Commissions <br />Donna Rote if they will be absent from a meeting. Staff information will be emailed out with the <br />Commission roster. A chairperson will be appointed at the next meeting. <br />No budget currently exists for the Commission but Planning and the Mayor's office have some <br />funds for materials and supplies. The Commission should discuss their 2014 needs before the <br />end of the year. <br />IVIISSION, GOALS & PROJECTS <br />Ms. Wenger suggested that the Commission should create a mission statement and define several <br />clear goals and priorities. These should be formalized at a future meeting. She reviewed past <br />initiatives of the Cultural Activities Commission and annual City events that require support. <br />Members shared their ideas and goals for the community. Incorporating art into the public realm <br />was supported. Various winter/holiday themed ideas were discussed such as a holiday lighting <br />photo contest, tree lighting in the park, and outdoor ice rink and more. The group will continue <br />to discuss ways to incorporate the arts into the community fabric and ways to raise public <br />awareness and visibility of arts events within the City. <br />The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
