fED LANDMARKS COMMISSION <br />I Report 2013 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The mission of the Landmarks Commission is to protect, preserve and perpetuate the structures <br />and districts which reflect the City's heritage. The Commission encourages education and <br />creates an environment that promotes the community's historic sites, events and citizens in <br />order to foster civic pride. <br />The members of the 2013 City of North Olmsted Landmarks Commission are as follows: <br />Paul Schumann, Chairman Thomas Dubowski Donald Rerko, AIA <br />David Neville, Vice Chairman Jim Morse Albert Richner, RA <br />Maryellen Davis Rosemary Walker Dale Thomas <br />CERTIFICATES OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />The Landmarks Commission has the responsibility of reviewing proposals for demolition, <br />construction or alteration of any landmark or property within a landmarks district. The <br />Landmarks Commission holds public hearings and issues certificates of appropriateness for <br />proposals which meet the criteria for acceptable work. For guidance, the Commission looks to <br />the Secretary of the Interior's standards for rehabilitation. Seven Certificates of <br />Appropriateness were requested, six were granted and one was denied in 2013. <br />Certificates of Appropriateness approved: <br />• 26885 Butternut Ridge Road: Fence in backyard (chain link). <br />• 25170 Butternut Ridge Road: Fence in the backyard (chain link). <br />• 25687 Butternut Ridge Road: Alter existing roofline between house, breezeway and garage. <br />• 25747 Butternut Ridge Road: New attached garage with a master suite added above. <br />• 30095 Lorain Road: A detailed restoration plan which included windows, new color palette <br />for the home, tree removal, and cement/sidewalk. <br />On March 11, 2013, Landmarks Commission granted a Certificate of Appropriateness to the <br />North Olmsted City Schools for the demolition and redevelopment of the Middle School Annex <br />property at 27253 Butternut Ridge Road due to the building's dilapidated condition. <br />Redevelopment of the site included parking, added greenspace with landscape beds and a new <br />feature walkway showcasing the sandstone Butternut School sign and salvaged bricks used for <br />the base of the sign.
