Homes of historical interest
4322 Porter Road; 25747 Butternut Ridge Road
4322 Porter Road: Mr. Richner indicated this is also a Biddulph home of the Craftsman style and
was built in 1910. The lot was part of Biddulph's 70.5 acres of farmland. He moved into the
house with his second wife, who took ownership upon Mr. Biddulph's death. When she died it
went to her daughters. The family lived in the home until 1963. Mr. Richner has completed the
application but requires photos of all four sides of the house. As this will require the owner's
permission, it is requested a letter be sent to the owner.
Mr. O'Malley spoke on the differences in requirements and restrictions with regard to historic
plaquing and landmark designation. Perceived restrictions may cause homeowners to hesitate in
pursuing historic plaquing recognition. These details should therefore be included in any
nominations and requests.
25747 Butternut Ridge Road: The owner of this home was given permission to build a garage at
the last Landmarks Commission meeting. Mr. Schumann said this home, the Bradford House,
has an interesting history. After the original home burned down in the 1920's a barn was moved
onto the site and converted into a house. In the 1960's the home was updated in the Colonial
Revival style. When developers petitioned to build a subdivision on and behind this property, the
Landmarks Commission insisted this home be saved. Along with the house at 4322 Porter, a
letter should be sent to the owner with regard to historic recognition.
Mr. Richner moved seconded by Mr. Thomas, to have the Director of Planning and
Development sencl a letter to the owners of both homes indicatir?g the historic recognition
nomination and requesting permission to proceed, dvhich passed 6-0o
Other homes worthy of historic recognition were discussed including a home just east of the
Peake marker, homes on Porter Road and at Columbia and Clague, a home near Mr. Morse on
Lorain, and a steel constructed home on Mastick built just after World War II in an aircraft
factory.
Mr. Richner said he submitted a PowerPoint presentation on the R.H. Knight-William Bidduph
House for the public hearing. It is requested Director Wenger schedule the meeting.
COMMUNICATIONS
Mr. Thomas reported he sent a website link for air race historian Bill Meixner to Director
Wenger.
