-?- -? _ <br />PLANNING & DESIGN COMMISSION <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />MINUTES FOIZ JANUARY 9, 2013 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Mr. Malone called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. in Council Chambers and led the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />Present: Greg Malone, Julie Nader, Ralph Bohlmann, Rosemary Walker, David Anderson, <br />Don Rerko <br />Absent: Mark Mahoney <br />Staff: Planning & Development Director Kimberly Wenger, Clerk of Commissions Donna <br />Rote <br />COMMISSION ORGANIZATION <br />Mr. Bohlmann moved, seconded by Mr. Rerko to elect Greg Malone Planning and Design <br />Chairmen which passed 6-0 <br />Mr. Malone moved, seconded by Mr. Bohlmann to elect Julie Nader Planning and Design Vice <br />Chair which passed 6-0 <br />Ms. Nader moved, seconded by Mr. Bohlmann to elect Rosemary Walker as Planning and <br />Design Commissions Landmarks representative which passed 6-0. <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />Mr. Malone moved, seconded by Mr. Bohlmann, to approve the December 12, 2012 minutes as <br />written, which passed 5-0 Mr: Rerko abstained. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Ordinance 2012-125 <br />An ordinance amending sections 1145.01 and 1145.03 of the North Olmsted Zoning Code <br />entitled "Limited Industry- Industrial Park District" in order to permit indoor firing ranges as a <br />conditional use in such districts. <br />Ms. Wenger said currently city codes do not address such a use. The proposed amendment for <br />indoor firing ranges would make the use conditional in the Industrial District, the district which <br />seemed most compatible with the use and nature of the business. Also, classifying the use as <br />conditional will allow the Planning and Design Commission and City Council to scrutinize the use <br />more carefully for any potential impacts to surrounding properties. Prior discussion included the <br />construction of such facilities and although it is not clear if Ohio Building Codes address such <br />facilities, State and federal codes would have jurisdiction over their construction. Incidental sales <br />were also discussed such as fire arms accessories and fire anns which is not addressed in the <br />legislation specifically in definitions. In speaking with the Safety Director who has a long history in <br />- law enforcement and is very familiar with such facilities he said gun sales was customary at firing
