ranges however gun rentals were not. Other items typically sold are ear and eye protection,
aminunition, targets and other items typically used at firing ranges. It would seem limited sales is
customary to the use. Rather than addressing sales in the body of the regulations it was worked into
the defmitions with the following wording: "Indoor firing range" means a building inside of which
the public and/or members of a private club discharge firearms for target practice, which may
include accessory uses which are customarily incidental to the main use. Although it doesn't list out
everything that could possibly be sold it would a11ow the sale of items which is typical to the use.
Such operations are heavily regulated by the State and Federal agencies and local rules may not
supersede those agencies in regulating fire arms sales. Commissioners preferred
using the word sales in lieu of uses which isn't as clear. Ms. Wenger advised the commission their
role is to recommend Council approve or deny the ordinance and cannot bind Council to an
amendment, however they can recommend the amendment be considered.
Mr. Malone, moved seconded by Ms. Nader, to recommend Council approve ordinance
2012-125 and consider including the recommended amendment: "Indoor firing range"
means a building inside of which the public and/or members of a private club discharge
firearms for target practice, which may include accessory sales which are customarily
incidental to the main use, which passed 6-0.
COMMUNICATIONS
Ms. Wenger said this year the Planning Association is having a three day workshop which she
would like to see commissioners attend the third day, Friday, September 27, 2013 as the topics
are geared to Planning Commissioners.
ADJOURNMENT
Wit _ further business, Mr. Mahoney's absence was excused and the meeting adjourned at
715n.ffi.
Chair onna Rote, Clerk of Commissions
z3 z?c?
Approved
2
