CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ARTS COMMISSION <br />MINUTES OF AUGUST 20, 2014 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Chairman Brake called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room. <br />Present: Bill Brake, Sue Collander, JoAnn DePolo, Stephanie Procter, Lauren Suter, David <br />Wahl <br />Absent: Nicole McClain, Arulie Kilbane <br />Staff: Planning & Development Director Kim Wenger <br />New members Sue and Stephanie were sworn in before the meeting. They introduced themselves <br />to the group. Bill announced Brad Doane's resignation. There are an additional three candidates <br />who are interested in joining the Commission which would bring the group up to full strength. <br />Bill aslced all Arts Commission members to be attentive and responsive to emails that are sent <br />with requests for input or participation. It is acceptable not to be available to assist with a taslc, <br />but every member should be engaged and respond to requests. When indicated, members should <br />reply all so that everyone can benefit from a discussion. <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />Minutes were provided with the agenda. Mr. Wahl moved, seeonded by Ms. Suter, to <br />approve the minutes of July 16, 2014 which was approved unanimously. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />2014 Homecominlz <br />Most preparations for the event have been made for this Friday's event. Bill will bring his PA <br />system and cd player, JoAnn will supply recorded music. She has secured a face painter and will <br />also bring markers and/or crayons for the logo coloring page that Lauren designed. Lauren will <br />design a board about the Arts Commission that can be put on display with photos from past <br />events. Kim will have nametags made and will create a bicentennial volunteer sign up sheet. Bill <br />will arrive at 6:00pm to set up. Other volunteers can arrive at 6:30pm. <br />Summer in the City <br />The group reviewed the successes and challenges of 2014. Changing the layout at the second <br />concert and the addition of the patio space at the third concert were good improvements. <br />Attendance also increased; however, this was mostly due to the larger following by Charlie in the <br />Box. The group reviewed the results of the 26 patron surveys completed at the third concert, <br />which were largely positive. Members debated whether programming or promotion would best <br />increase attendance. David felt the banner over Lorain Road would significantly increase <br />awareness. Sue said a coupon or discount in the local paper could improve attendance. Bill felt <br />that if the event was cool enough, it would attract its own audience. It would be a matter of
