adding more substance to complete the event. JoAnn gave an example of adding a classic car
display to pair with an oldies band.
All agreed that good bands with followings would increase attendance. Kim suggested partnering
with other community groups and organizations, allowing them to provide food and beverage at
the concerts as a fundraiser. She felt they would promote the event to their membership to
support the event. Bill cautioned that food sales are unpredictable and might not be a great
benefit to the groups. Kim suggested they could have donation baslcets, run 50150 raffles, and
perhaps donate a percentage of proceeds to the Commission to help offset expenses. The group
also discussed whether alcohol could be consumed or sold at the event. A wine tasting on the
patio could be an attraction and would be in a contained area. A non-profit could possibly run the
tasting. Kim will look into rules regarding alcohol in the park. 2015 dates were discussed. The
group felt moving the concert time a little later in the day could improve the event.
Lauren moved, seconded by David, to schedule the 2015 Summer in the City concert series
for the following Sundays: June 21, July 19 and August 16 from 6:00-8:30 p.m.
City Bicentennial
Kim shared progress regarding events planning, bicentennial website, merchandise, launch event,
and the North Olmsted magazine. Landmarks Commission is gathering history facts for the
Faceboolc page. The website is hoped to be up and running in September and the City is trying to
secure celebratenortholmsted.com. It will be used for registering for the New Year's Eve party at
Springvale. Sponsorships are being sought, the most urgent is currently for_the launch event as it
is approaching in October. The group discussed the numerous ideas for arts type projects using
contests and the challenges associated with contest based design. Kim created a water tower
photo contest to gather images for the magazine. Other contests should be vetted through the
executive committee, which should meet prior to the Arts Commission meeting of September 17.
NEW BUSINESS
City Hall Art Gallery
Milce Rozack, Sr. application
Stefanie Verish application
Applications and representative samples were reviewed by Commission members. Both
candidates were known to JoAnn through her studio.
David moved, seconded by Lauren, to approve Milce Rozack, Sr.'s application for a three
month exhibit, which was approved unanimously.
Lauren moved, seconded by David, to approve Stefanie Verish's applieation for a two
month exhibit, which was approved unanimously.
Tree Lightin?
As the next two Arts Commission meetings are dedicated to bicentennial planning, the group felt
a special meeting was warranted to begin discussion of the December lst event.
