.- -_ ,
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
ARTS COMMISSION
MINUTES OF JUNE 18, 2014
ROLL CALL
Chairman Brake called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room.
Present: Bill Brake, JoAnn DePolo, Brad Doane, Lauren Suter
Absent: Nicole McClain, Annie Kilbane, David Wahl
Staff: Planning & Development Director Kim Wenger
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Minutes were provided with the agenda. Mr. Doane moved, seconded by Ms. Suter, to
approve the February 19, 2014 minutes, which passed 4-0.
OLD BUSINESS
City Hall Art Gallerv
One application was received by the Commission for consideration. Rachel Yurkovich proposed
a two or three month display of photography. Members were concerned that City Hall might not
be the best display venue for the subject matter, which would be well suited to a private gallery.
The Commission felt City Hall art should generally be welcoming, while the proposed exhibit
would explore the duality between images that are attractive and at the same time repulsive. The
Commission unanimously denied the art gallery application of Rachel Yurkovich..
Summer in the City
Bill is handling on site logistics for the Sunday, June 22 event with the band and food vendors.
He has met and/or talked with all about their set up needs. He will be arriving Sunday at
12:30pm with the band.arriving as early as 1:00pm. JoAnn said five to seven artists will be on
site painting during the concert; those works will then be on display in her gallery on August 20.
She will use city pop up tents for her studio/gallery information. Bill agreed to emcee the event,
with notes provided by Kim. Lauren will devise a fun way to distribute a few t-shirts to the
crowd. Lauren will also set up a Facebook event that can be used to invite friends and more
magnets and cards will be distributed at the event.
City Bicentennial
The group reviewed the draft Bicentennial logo and offered input to a very patient Lauren, who
made a few changes and presented the final image, to tfie accolades of all. The logo, now
complete, will be used in the near future in the outreach piece for fundraising and on the
Celebrate North Olmsted Facebook page. Kim provided the group other updates regarding
progress with fireworks; a meeting with Metroparlcs regarding the trailhead, expansion of
Summer in the City to include movies in the park in 2015, and more. Much of the current efforts
are still in the laying the groundwork phase of planning.
