CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ARTS COMMISSION <br />MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 19, 2014 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Chairman Brake called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room. <br />Present: Bill Brake, JoAnn DePalo, Brad Doane, Lisa Graff, Lauren Suter, Coletta Strippy, <br />David Wahl <br />Absent: Nicole McClain, Arinie Kilbane <br />Staff: Planning & Development Director Kim Wenger <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />Minutes were provided with the agenda. Mr. Doane Ynoved, seconded by Ms. Graff, to <br />approve the January 15,1014 minutes, which passed 6-0. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />The Mavor's Art Show (Student Art Gallery): Apri12 at City Hall <br />JoAnn reported on the Februaxy 3 meeting she had with Coletta; Kim and the high school art <br />teachers. Coletta will handle the refreshments for the event and certificates of recognition for the <br />student artists. Kim will handle invitations to city and school officials, a press release and <br />announcements. She will mail the invitations by the end of the month. JoAnn will produce a <br />postcard with the artist names when they are supplied in March. Tlie artists might provide some <br />biographical information or writings on their art to include by their pieces. The group discussed <br />student music and the intent to make it part of the background of the event rather than a <br />performance. If a high school quartet is not ayailable, cds can be used for music. Bill said the <br />group should work on developing their contacts and competencies for promotion, which can then <br />be used to support other events. City Hall Art Gallery <br />Two applications have been received by artists for exhibition at City Hall. The first received was <br />Paul Collander for a two month show, the second received was Ann Meike for a one month <br />show, both North Olmsted residents. Commission members reviewed the submissions. Kim will <br />determine how these artists heard about the opportunity for future reference. Ms. Graff moved, <br />seconded by Ms. Suter, to approve the applications of Paul Collander and Anne Meike, <br />which was approved 7-0. <br />Summer in the City: June 22, July 20, August 17 at North Olmsted Park <br />David confirmed that Johnny Aces and the Wingmen and Meghan Zurkey are set for the June <br />and July dates, respectively. The Commission needs to decide on th,e band for August. Kim said <br />she has requested the Law Director to assist with a simple performance agreement for the bands. <br />The group discussed the budget for the event in detail, including costs of bands, promotional <br />materials and revenue from sponsorship. JoAnn DePolo Studios & Gallery will be the sole <br />sponsor of Summer in the City. JoAnn requested to have artists from her studio paint at the
