Landmark Designation Plaques
Ms. Wenger said that the 2014 budget would include funds for landmark designation plaques for
the Charles Alden Seltzer house and the Knight-Biddulph house. She asked the Commission for
input regarding the design and layout of the plaques. She offered to create a few design options
for feedback. The Commission discussed how both homes were not very visible from the public
right of way and whether there could be information signs or other means to recognize the
properties at the street.
Old Town Hall
Ms. Wenger said that the City had engaged an architect to review water intrusion and building
envelope issues at Old Town Hall. The building assessment will be available soon for the group
to review. Once the group understands the work required to preserve the building, a plan can be
developed for funding, whether through grants or city funds. A second part of the plan might be
to look at possible revenue generating uses for the building which could help defray the cost of
maintenance. Mr. Schumann suggested taking a tour of the building as part of the process.
NEW BUSINESS
2015 Citv Sicentennial
Mr. Schumann said conversations have recently begun regarding planning for the 2015
bicentennial. The new Arts Commission is taking the lead on planning, but there has been
discussion regarding possible joint meetings between the Commissions. Ms. Wenger said a
number of Arts Commission meetings have been identified as joint planning meetings;
representatives of the schools, Olmsted Historical Society and Community Council have already
been invited. The groups would work together to commonly brand events happening in 2015 as
part of the bicentennial celebration. The meetings will be during the regularly scheduled Arts
Commission meetings in the months of March, May, September, October and December, which
are the third Wednesdays of the month. Other months Landmarks will meet as normal. The
group felt positive about being involved in this undertaking.
Mr. Neville moved, seconded by Mr. Morse, to support the bicentennial planning efforts
and amend the 2014 Landmarks Commission meeting schedule; which was approved 8-0.
ADJOURNMENT
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
. ??
David Neville
Chair
Kimberly Wenger
Director of Planning & Development
Date: ?//30///?
