Mr. Schumann moved, seconded by Mr. Morse, to grant a Certificate of Appropriateness
to 15-4245: North Olmsted Board of Education of 27425 Butternut Ridge Road for the
demolition of the North Olmsted Schools administrative building, which passed 6-0.
15-4246: North Olmsted Board of Education; 27501 Butternut Ridge Road
Proposal consists of a Certificate of Appropriateness for the demolition of an existing home.
Mr. Neville said he would like to postpone the discussion as there has been an opportunity
presented to possibly save the home due to a financial donation to OHS. Mr. Morse said he had
no objections to the garage and shed being removed however the home can possibly be saved
therefore he would object to a COA at this time. Mr. Schumann asked how the commission could
table the matter. Ms. Wenger said the commission can table the matter to request additional
information or ask the board of education if they would table themselves. Mr. Schumann said by
tabling the discussion one month it would give the Society and the Metroparks an opportunity to
know for sure if they are able to save the home. Mr. Limpert asked the schools deadline for
demolishing the buildings. Mr. Smith said that under the plan both buildings have to be
demolished at the same time and that is scheduled for November. The school purchased the
home for the purpose of demolishing the home and squaring off their property. The school has
been before the commission three times now to request a COA to demolish the home all of
which have been postponed. The school board is frustrated they have given the Historical
Society ample time to raise the funds to move the home. Ms. Cossler said that the house is a
liability and the district can't get the property insured due to its condition. Mr. Schumann
suggested that was a self-created hardship due to lack of maintenance. Ms. Wenger advised that
if Landmarks votes on a COA and it is turned down it will place the property into a six month
moratorium. The commission is offering the applicant the opportunity to table themselves to
address the new issues which have arisen and would allow the schools to stay on their timeline.
Ms. Cossler said she can't control what the commission does and she can't commit to anything
for her clients other than to convey what takes place at the meeting. The district will be
disappointed if there isn't a resolution to the request as they have postponed this for more than 3
years and have bent over backwards to accommodate the Historical Society and the commission.
The building is not a historical landmark nor is it recognized in any way. Mr. Neville said all
buildings scheduled for demolition are within the historical district and subject to their authority.
Mr. Schumann moved, seconded by Mr. Limpert to table 15-4246: North Olmsted Board of
Education of 27501 Butternut Ridge Road until October 19, 2015 motion passed 6-0.
OLD BUSINESS
Landmark Reco2nition
Seltzer ceremony recap
Knight-Biddulph ceremony
Mr. Limpert said the ceremony was on September 12th and was well attended with about 60
people. Jim and Dan opened their home and allowed the attendees to tour their home. The
service department provided the NOMBL bus for the ceremony and the weather was perfect.
