CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
ARTS COMMISSION
MINUTES OF JANUARY 21, 2015
ROLL CALL
Vice Chair Suter called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room.
Present: Lauren Suter, Sue Collander, Stephanie Procter, David Wahl, Jeff Campbell, Laura
Simna, JoAnn DePolo, Cailey Brake
Absent: Bill Brake, Nicole McClain, Annie Kilbane
Staff: Planning & Development Director Kim Wenger
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Minutes were provided with the agenda.
Mr. Wahl moved, seconded by Ms. DePolo, to approve the minutes of November 19, 2014
which was approved unanimously.
Mr. Campbell moved, seconded by Ms. Suter, to approve the minutes of December 17, 2014
which was approved unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
Holidav Market & Tree Lightin?
Group consensus was that the 2014 event was vastly improved over past years and offered a
much better experience to the community. Suggestions for improvements included nametags for
commission members/staff and better communication (verbal, interior and exterior signage) with
guests. Corrimunication between commission members and staff regarding tasks and areas of
responsibility can also be improved. Both crafts and hot chocolate ran out. Stephanie suggested
limiting craft vendors to smaller/less expensive handmade items only to encourage on site sales.
In terms of lighting, more midway lighting should be considered and more timers need to be
procured so all lights can shine through the season. Possibly a bigger lighting element along
Lorain could aitract attention. The wish switch was a highlight, but Santa's entrance was
underwhelming, much more fanfare is required.
New Year's Eve Bicentennial Bash
About 110 people attended the Bicentennial Bash. While it was not a profit maker, the event was
well done and enjoyable for all who attended.
Financial Reuort
Kim said Bill and Finance Director Copfer are assisting with putting together the budget. She
needs budget requests for BiKEcentennial, the Arts Showcase, the historical tour and Tree
Lighting. Other event budgets should be verified with teams planning the event. Fundraising
continues to bring in small donations and offers of donated merchandise for events.
