- 1i <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ARTS COMMISSION <br />MINUTES OF JANUARY 20, 2016 <br />ROLL CALL <br />The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room. <br />Present: Bill Brake, Jeff Campbell, JoAnn DePolo, Annie Kilbane, Stephanie Procter, Laura <br />Sixnna, Lauren Suter Absent: Cailey Bement, Sue Collander <br />Staff: Planning & Development Director Kim Wenger, Planner James Aspery <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />Jeff moved, seconded by Lauren, to approve the Arts Commission minutes of November <br />18, 2015 which passed unanimously. <br />COMMISSION ORGANIZATION <br />JoAnn moved, seconded by Laura, to appoint Bill Brake as Arts Commission chair in 2016, <br />which passed unanimously. Bill moved, seconded by Laura, to appoint Lauren Suter as <br />Arts Commission vice chair in 2016, which passed unanimously. <br />The 2016 meeting calendar was distributed along with dates for Arts Commission organized <br />events. Kim announced that Jackie Anderson was approved by City Council as the Mayor's <br />newest appointment to the Arts Commission much to everyone's delight. She also introduced <br />James Aspery who will be taking a large role in future Commission meetings and events. Kim <br />said polo shirt would be purchased early in 2016. <br />Lauren said that formerly the Cultural Activities Commission was a member of the North <br />Olmsted Community Council. With the reorganization, the Arts Commission has not been a <br />member for the past several years. She suggested the Commission become a member <br />organization for $20. The group discussed the merits of belonging to this organization of <br />organizations by using its network to communicate about local events and activities. Jeff moved, <br />seconded by Annie, for the Arts Commission to become a member of the North Olmsted <br />Community Council. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />North Olmsted Noel <br />The group had an extensive discussion of the North Olmsted Noel event: what went well, what <br />could be improved and other ideas for the future. The reindeer was a big hit, the music was a <br />great addition, food vendors did extremely well, and the children's games provided more for <br />families to do than in the past. Some of the challenge points were the market/vendors who felt <br />there was not enough visibility or promotion, the need to acknowledge the diversity of the North <br />Olmsted population, the disconnection between various parts of the event, and the need to <br />increase general public awareness.
