vendors, the addition of community groups to the vendor mix, the addition of holiday/winter art,
more outdoor activities, more publicity and a better wayfinding/signage system that would
connect all parts of the event. The Commission will spend more time in the next few months
coming up with a game plan.
PR/Publicity
The Celebrate North Olmsted website is still live and will be for some time, so the event listings,
articles on community members and projects, and historical information will continue for an
undetermined amount of time. The Facebook page has transitioned away from Bicentennial to a
winter theme. The bicentennial retrospective yearbooks are in print and will be available by the
volunteer event next Monday night.
The group discussed streetscape and over the street banners. Over the street banners are
expensive to produce, difficult to install, and hard to read if a lot of text due to the pole locations.
If used in the future, any over the street banner should carry a very simple message. On the other
hand, streetscape banners can be produced by the city's sign shop for very little cost, material
only. They can be changed out more frequently, as well.
NEW BUSINESS
Earth Fair
The committee met to discuss the Farm Market and Food Show the previous week and has
recommended a change in direction, since there is already a local popular winter farm market
serving the area. Instead, the group proposes Earth Fair, an event near the time of Earth Day that
will tie in to environmental and spring themes. Select food and market vendors, kids' nature
crafts, possibly a park clean up by local scout groups, a petting zoo, talks by Metroparks
naturalists, a recycled student art show, a rain barrel workshop, and a community garden display
were all discussed. Parks and Rec will organize games. Jeff suggested an electric car display, as
well. The event date will be Apri124th from 1:00-4:OOPM at the cabin, senior center and park.
Next committee meeting is January 29th at 11:OOAM at the cabin.
Citv Hall Art Gallery
Cynthia Paul's and Karl Creed's applications were reviewed. Lauren moved, seconded by
JoAnn, to approve the application of Cynthia Paul for a show ending mid-March, which
passed unanimously. It was felt the jewelry exhibit would not be a stand alone display because
it would be too sma11, but could be in conjunction with another artist. Lauren moved, seconded
by Laura, to approve the application of Karl Creed for a show at the same timeframe,
which passed unanimously.
The Mayor's Art Show gallery reception is set for March 30'h. Some event enhancements
discussed could be the Polaris Pastry Arts Program desserts (like 2015) and student music. The
strolling strings group was mentioned. There are some challenges to student music: if too big a
group it will be too loud, if one or two students there might not be enough content for the entire
event. The students who participate in solo and ensemble could be the solution. They have
practiced for the competition shortly before the art show on one piece. A series of students could
create a music program for the reception. They would be located in Chambers near the dais with
a green room in the conference room behind chambers. Lauren will see the high school principal
