r
?? • -.
Great Northern Mall Collaboration
Following the mention of potential new events in 2017, the conversation shifted into a discussion
regarding a potential collaboration with Great Northern Mall as an event space for future events.
James shared the Mall's schedule of progranmiing in early October for their Better Block
project. Jeff stated his preference for this partnership based on his experience at the August
workshop. He listed the advantages of having a dedicated indoor space with flexible uses and
secured locations for multi-day events, specifically listed the Sears Wing as a potential area for
hosting productions and other related events. Lauren and Bill concurred, stating that a
partnership with the mall could lead to a myriad of new opportunities for the Commission.
Aimie said that the mall's new initiative is an effective way to open up to the community, since
right now she avoids the mall whenever possible. Bill agreed, adding that the Commission could
be the change agent that helps attract a wider audience than what the mall already brings in.
James reminded the group that the Commission is encouraged to seek out new event spaces, such
as the mall, but it must always remain open to other opportunities in the interest of fairness to
community residents. He will reach out to the mall to gauge their interest for 2017 events. Bill
concurred, stating that the Commission must be mindful of whose mission is being advanced
when partnering with the mall for events, programming, etc. Stemming from that thought, he
suggested that the Commission should begin to hone in on what "types" of art they wish to
promote and re-establish a vision going forward based on that determination. It was agreed upon
as a discussion item for a later meeting.
Somewhere - Musical bv the Dover Players
Jeff encouraged members to attend an upcoming production put on by the Dover Players.
