LANDMARKS COMMISSION CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED MINUTES FOR JANUARY 11, 2016 ROLL CALL Chairman Neville called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers. Present: David Neville, Jim Dubelko, Tom Dubowski, Jim Morse, Gretchen Schuler Absent: Don Rerko, Duane Limpert, Paul Schumann Staff: Director of Planning & Development Kimberly Wenger, Permit Clerk Nicole Rambo COMMISSION ORGANIZATION Mr. Neville was nominated Chair and Mr. Morse was nominated Vice Chair of the Landmarks Commission for 2016, approved unanimously. REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mr. Dubowski moved, seconded by Mr. Dubelko, to approve the Landmarks Commission minutes of December 14, 2015, motion passed 5-0. NEW BUSINESS CMS15-5017: James Wasniak; 26487 Butternut Ridge Road Proposal consists of a Certificate of Appropriateness for proposed vinyl siding. James Wasniak proposed to cover existing wood siding with vinyl siding. Three sides of the house are covered in 12-inch redwood lap siding. The front of the house has 4-inch lap siding with scalloped siding on the porch, the upper story, and above the dormer windows on the sides of the house. Mr. Wasniak stated that maintenance is getting difficult for him to do and expensive. He wanted to keep the old siding on house in case a future owner wants to restore the house to its original state. Mr. Wasniak said he wants to box out the curve around the top window of the house as the material would allow. The siding would be Juniper Ridge green, trim would be Adobe Cream, and the porch would have a dark maroon color to match the doors. Mr. Morse requested that Mr. Wasniak submit an example of what he is doing with the curved portion of the upper exterior. He believed that a lot of architectural character would be lost if it is covered with new material. Mr. Wasniak wanted to make the belt course a different color to emphasize that it was original to the house. He also wanted to cover the chimney with siding. Mr. Dubelko believed the architectural features should be preserved. Mr. Neville stated the house was built in the Queen Anne style and other houses on Butternut have a similar style. Mr. Neville echoed concerns over the loss of the architectural features. Mr. Wasniak plans on staying in the house after the exterior renovation and has done other restorations to the house. He stated he would be ok with putting vinyl scalloped siding where the existing scalloped siding is. Mr. Dubowski didn't believe the vinyl siding on the chimney would look right with the style of the house. He clarified that the vinyl siding would not interfere with using the interior fireplaces. Mr. Wasniak stated that he previously covered the exterior brick of the chimney with cement board
