Everyone on the board in that time has been an outstanding citizen and
volunteer. Twelve years ago, the commission applied for Certified Local Government status,
requiring a charter change and forcing the commission to comply with rigorous standards. Since
he has served, members have included architects, architect historians, published authors,
restoration experts, historians and many have held degrees in history, law and other related
fields. Today the board consists of three former Community Council Citizens of the Year, a
former law director and also published author, multiple people who have restored their own
historical homes, and members of the Olmsted Historical Society. Some of the Commission's
accomplishments have been to save the Barton Road Church, influence the look of the new
library and high schooUmiddle school complex, place four Ohio Historical markers, plaque
multiple houses in and out of the district, and present three local landmarks plaques. He can only
remember six times when applications were denied, including for the Thompson and Bradford
Homes. Most people come before the board for advice and that is how Mr. Morse became part of
the commission. All of these goals have been accomplished with no budget from the City and
through fundraising with local nonprofits and groups. When deciding on Certificates of
Appropriateness, the board has always treated everyone fairly.
17-9330; Bruce Pearson; 26944 Butternut Ridge Road
Representatives: Bruce & Carol Pearson, owners
Proposal consists of new siding.
