confirmed that the balloon artist and face painter will be attending. The balloon artist will be
entirely mobile but the face painter will require a small card table from the Senior Center. James
shared that the signage will be installed by the Service Department during the first week of
November, including yard signs, pole banners and the temporary ground sign. The large snowflake
decorations and building lighting will also be installed that same week. Backpack stuffers will be
delivered to Stephanie by the second week of November. Gazebo decorations will be hung by the
Commission on Sunday, November 4th at 10:00am.
NEW BUSINESS
2019 Priorities
The group discussed ideas for 2019 programming and events. Jackie suggested organizing a seed
swap at Earth Fair, with Janelle adding that the Westside Flea could be another venue for this
activity. Leah expressed her desire to organize more beautification projects as a way of reaching a
wider audience. Jenny offered examples of projects in other cities as inspiration. Jackie suggested
a community art event in the park or Community Cabin, with Jenny expressing an interest in
organizing group classes involving painting or similar visual arts. Keith Behrendt, a guest in
attendance, offered the idea for a citywide art competition to be judged at the 2019 Homecoming
festival. Laura suggested a chalk festival using sidewalks near city school facilities. Jackie
recommended adding more market vendors to the 2019 Party in the Park event, potentially
involving the Westside Flea. Leah added that the event should also have an increased focus on the
culinary arts as long as it isn't a duplicate of Homecoming or similar events. The group
unanimously expressed a strong interest in promoting the culinary arts in 2019, listing ideas such
as a food tour of local restaurants, a healthy cooking demonstration or adding a culinary arts
component to the existing yoga series.
ADJOURNMENT
ith no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:31 p.m.
Jackie Chavez-An rson, Chair James Aspery, Planner
Approved: 12 / I 9/ 1 /
