Mr. Smith stated that he works for Direct Image Signs, a subcontractor of Apex Signs. Mr.
O'Malley advised the board that the applicants or owner should not practice law even though Mr.
Smith believes himself to be the representative for Sears or Apex. No paperwork was submitted
to give him permission to represent the applicant or owner. However, Mr. O'Malley believed the
variance request could stand alone unrepresented and Mr. Smith could provide additional info if
needed since he will probably be the contractor pulling the building permit. Mr. Allain confirmed
with Mr. O'Malley that they could listen to facts from Mr. Smith.
Mr. Smith stated that some Sears locations have been closed. Signage from one of the old stores
is intended to replace the existing signage at the North Olmsted location. Mr. Aspery was in
favor of the proposal. Mr. O'Malley pointed out that the sign code was intended to be a standard
for signage visible from Lorain road and larger signs are needed for more visibility as the setback
from the road increases. Mr. Papotto commented that the directions on the elevations were
mislabeled but the signs look proportional.
Mr. Papotto moved, seconded by Mr.1Vlackey, to approve the following variances for 18-
11216; Sears; 5000 Great 1Vorthern Mall:
1. A 2 ft. variance for wall sign height on east elevation; code permit wall sign to be no
greater than 4 ft. in height; east wall sign proposed at 6 ft. in height; Section 1163.28(C).
2. A 37.7 sq. ft. variance for wall sign area; applicant permitted one wall sign at 100 sq. ft.
on east elevation; east wall sign shown at 137.7 sq. ft.; Section 1163.28(C).
Motion passed 4-0.
ADJOURNMENT
Mr.1Vlackey moved, seconded by Mr. Papotto, to excuse the absence of 1VIr. Raig, motion
passed 4-0.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:41 p.m.
.
?
Eric Allain, /ice Chair Nicole R mbo-Ackerman, Administrative
Assistant
Approved: -7 Zi 1%
