Schiely the Architect, Mr. Kalina from Adams Signs, and Mr. Skouiis abutting neighbor,
eaeh came forward to be swom in and address the request. Mr. Kalina reviewed that the lot
was approximately 24 %a acres and the frontage along Broolcpark Road is 180 feet. He
suggested that Plamvng Commission requested ari upscale sign package and for the entraace to
have eurved wa11s. T'hey have proposed curved walls for both the vvest and east side of the
main entrance which will call out tenants as well. The waiis will be construeted out of stacked
cultured stone. He suggested that as the site was not a 4ypieal straps ccnter they designed a
grand entrance twith the curved walls. The name of the center will be called out on tlae cultured
stone, which will aiso include a ffiajor tenant sign and three tenant flags on both sides of the
entrances. Although the names of the tenants will be different the size of the 2 ground signs
vdould be the same. The biaildmg department consaders the two ffiajor ground signs to be a
total of 4 ground signs. There wi11 be aTa.rget ground sign placed vertically on the center
island at the main entrauce. 'I'here will also be a target grouiad sign located towards the east
end of the property yn Iine with the Target buiiding itself. All lettering on the ground signs will
be illuffiinated. T'he need for tne east end Target sign is due to T'arget's and the City's
diseussions with O.D.O.T. for an add'ational curb-cut onto the site. He believed that there
would he a total of 400 feet between the two Target signs. Mrs. Sergi questiomeci the IIumber
of proposed ground signs at the main entrance as it seemed to her that there would be a total of
7 ground signs at the entrance which she felt would create safety hazards.
Mr. Ryffiarezyk nndieated that the proposeci ground signs eould affect future wall signs for the
buildings depending on the number of tenants and the size of the tenant stores themselves. The
code allows 2 ground signs on a 600 foot lot placed 200 feet apaat and the applicants are asldng
for 5 ground signs wifilain 90 feet of each other. He suggested that the 4 ground sigris could be
reconfigured to make 2 single g?ound sigps. Mr. Kalina stated that the site needed a grand
entrance so standard signs would not work. His sign package is a package deai that would
place North Ohnsted aaead of olher commumties. He suggested 2hat lus package evas an 'in='
thing like Avon Commons whicla has a simalar entrnce. `dhe #lags will be aluminutn panels
wiffi routeci copy aagd all wordmg would be illummated except tae raised lettering caliing out
the name of the center as it will have Iights behind the letters. He beTf eves that the centers
letterigag wdl be bronze and the flag flettering wauld 1e whnte. Botlfl entrance ground signs are
15 feet high by 35 feet wide and ctarved.
12 of 15
