Mr. McKay voiced that he was not concerned with the pharmacy sign, but was adarniantly against
the target logo as it would shine directly into the front of the abutting condos. The logo would be
an eye sore to have to look at every time a resident looks out their front window. The condos have
been there for some 30 years now and any sign on the south side of the building would be a direct
eyesore and hindrance to the abutting residents. He requested the board say no to the logo sign as
it would be detrimental to the residents. Mrs. D'aver indicated that the Target Company requested
the location of their entrance sign themselves and it could.haWe been located in the middle of the
building so if their sign is not seen it is because they chose to place it were it would not be seen.
She requested the board require a11 signs be turned off when the store closes in their motion. She
agreed with Mr. McKay and believed that although the applicants have put a11ot of money into the
site the city also made quite a few sacrifices for the applicants as well.
Mr. Kalina did not think the target bulls-eye would be a nuisance to the condo owners and assured
the board that all signs would be turned off wit.hun a half hour of the store closing. He handed out a
plan which showed the placement of the bulls-eye and suggested the picture and placement of the
logo were disclosed during the approval process of the buildings. Mrs. Sergi questioned the hours
of operation. Mr. Schiely advised that hours of operation wouid be 8:00 am to 10:00 pm Monday
through Saturday and Sunda.y 8:00 am to 9:00 pm. Mr. Kruse, with Target came forward to be
sworn in and address the board. Mr. Kruse confirmed the hours of operations and indicated that
Mr. Schiely was correct that the store signs are not on all night, only during working hours as will
be the same for site lighting as well. However there would be staff in the building all night as all
shelve stocking. is done throughout the night. After the board deliberated Mrs. Sergi asked if the
applicants wanted their sign requests addressed as a package or broken out individually. Mr.
Kalina indicated that they would prefer the signs broken out.
N. Sergi moved to grant Target/Sign Lite of 24646 Brookpark Road their request for
variance (1123.12), which consists of wall signs and tbat the following variance is granted as
amended: 1). A variance for 1 additional wall sign being a bulls-eye om the south side of the
building. Condi4ionecl upon the sign being turned off no later than 11:00 pm, (code permits
1, applicant shows 2). Which is in violation of Ord. 90-125 section (1163.27 A). W. Kremzar
seconded the mo4ion, roll call on the motion J. iVlaloney, W. Kremaar, T. Kelly, N. Sergi "no"
anal M. Diver "abstained", Variance Denied. J. Ivlaloney indicated that he was against a sign on
the south side of the building as it would shine into the condos across the street from the site. W.
Kremzar believed that as a ground sign with a bulls-eye was already granted and the applicants
chose the location of the main sign the additional sign was not needed.
N. Sergi moved to grant 1'arget/Sign Lite of 24646 Brookpark Road their request for
variance (1123.12), which consists off wall signs and that the following variance is granted as
amended: 1). A variance for 1 additional Pharmacy wall sign on the west side of the building.
Conditioned upon it being turned off no later than 11:00 pm, (code permits 1, applicant
shows 2). Which is in violation of Ord. 90.125 section (1163.27 A). W. Kremzar seconded
the motion, roll call on the ffiotion, J. 1Vlaloney, W. Kremzar, T. Kelly "yes", N. Sergi "no",
and M. Diver "abstained" Variance Granted.
NEW BiJSINESS:
1. I)ouglas & 5usan Piwarski; 23990 Mastick: (WRD 4)
Request for variance (1123.12).
