VIII. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
The Commission discussed an article related to the challenges of first suburbs. Mr. Yager asked
if the City was considered a first suburb. Ms. Wenger indicated no. Mr. Yager believed that the
City should be classified as a first suburb. It does not mean that the City would be perceived as
economically challenged, in fact other first string cities are taking advantage of federal grants and
things of that nature. He believes that the City was invited to be part of the consortium but the
previous Mayor declined. If the City was a first ring suburb, the City could qualify for more grant
assistance.
Ms. Wenger reviewed that each commissioner was provided a copy of the completed Master Plan
to take home and review. She suggested that the commission have a caucus at an upcoming
meeting or devote part of a meeting to determining actions, steps and plans to make
recommendations to.pursue.
Ms. Wenger advised that the recreation plan was moving forward and that interviews for
consultants were scheduled. She would like Planning Commission involved when public
meetings are held. She met with the consultant for the design guidelines, but felt more work was
needed. The zoning would now have to catch up with the guidelines as the city can't adopt
guidelines which conflict with current zoning as it would be unenforceable unless they match.
Once the design guidelines are put in place it would be a different approach, working with
applicants it just won't be zoning code requirements not being met. More of the issues would he
worked out in pre-submission meetings once guidelines are in place.
IX. AI)JOURNMENT:
J. Lasko moved to excuse the absence of commission meanber W. Spalding. R. Bohlmann
seconded the motion which was unanimously apppoved.
R. Koeth moved to adjourn the meeting. R. Bohlmann seconded the motion which was
urianimously approved. Meeting adjourned at 10:30 pm.
?
Koeth Chairman Da e: onna Rote Clerk of Com
11
