9
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES COMMISSION
HELD AT OLD TOWN HALL
MARCH 1, 2006
MINUTES
I. ROLL CALL:
Acting Chairwoman B. Martindale called the meeting to order at 6:50 pm.
PRESENT: Members; B. Martindale, B. Brown, G. Yustick, J. Kepperley, D. Wahl.
ABSENT: Members; F. Curry, and R. Garland
ALSO PRESENT: Mr. Chris Glassburn with the Board of Education.
Mr. Glassburn indicated that although there were no openings on the commission the Board of
education would still lilce a member of the board to attend the Cultural Activities Commission
meetings to keep abreast of cultural activities taking place within the community. The
commission welcomed Mr. Glassburn and encouraged him to continue to attend and talce part
in the commission.
H. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES:
J. Kepperley motion to approve the February 1, 2006 Cultural Activities Commission minutes
as written. D. Wahl seconded the motion which was unanimously approved.
III. NEW BUSINESS:
2006 ART SHOW:
Mr. Yusticlc reviewed that all the art show applications were mailed out and the only thing left
to do now is create the acceptance paclcages and denial letters. That will be sent out after the
April 30`h deadline. Mrs. Martindale questioned what would constitute a denial letter. Mr.
Yustick suggested that work would only be denied if it is obscene or just really bad. The
judges of the applications will be Mr. Yusticlc and Mrs. Brown. The maximum number of
applicants that will be accepted is 90 and the minimum required to have the show will be 50
artists. Mr. Kepperley felt that the Kiwanis Club would be willing to accept less than 50 artists
as long as the total entries covered all coasts incurred to hold the show to get the event going.
Each $150.00 entry will allot artists a 15' x 15' tent space to show/sale their work.
Mr. Kepperley reviewed that he was questioned as to what type of security there would be
throughout the night. He thought that the artists should be advised to not leave their work
overnight. He thinlcs that there are parlc rangers that will drive through the area during the
evening but no one posted. Frostville curator advised him that neither the Commission nor the
museum would be responsible for items left overnight. Furthermore overnight camping is not
permitted in the metroparks. Although the High School band is unable to attend due to their
busy schedule he would like to arrange something with local musical artists to provide
baclcground music. He suggested a tent be provided for the musical ensembles during the
event. The commission would like to create a program guide for visitors so they can navigate
through the featured artists at the show. A discussion of having ads in the programs for the
next art show to increase money raised was discussed.
1
