V. COMMITTEE 12EPORTS:
VI. OLD BUSINESS:
Mr. Schumann reviewed that the bell tower was in place and the bell was marked Buckeye Bell
Foundry 1881 so it is the churches original bell as the churches bell tower was constructed in
about 1895. They were very excited to find the bell when the church was being prepped to be
moved and even more excited once it was cleaned and found to be the original bell. When the
bell tower was reconstructed the bell was raised so that the turning wheel can be seen from the
parking lot and the bell can now be seen through the tower openings. Mr. Schumann reviewed
the crane operators skills moving the tower and reviewed some of the visitors present for the
move. The bell is rung two ways, they are in the process of restoring the turning wheel method
to ring the bell and advised that the hammer method used for single rings worked.
Mr. Schumann reviewed that the Historical Society has been invited to salvage items from the
Barton School house. The attic of the home has 17-foot 2`x 8' beams which they would like to
use in the Barton Road church. They are hoping to salvage as much as possible before the
home is demolished. Regarding the Stearns home he heard that the previous owner was looking
into moving the home on a lot she owns near the home. He did not believe there was much in
the home worth saving other than the framing material. He advised that the Historical Society
voted to try to raise money to help move the Stearns carriage house to the baclc of the site. So
the process has started to try to save the carriage house and to use it to store materials from the
original home which is worth saving. Frostville is thinking of converting the carriage house
into restrooms. The size of the building is the right size and they want the restroom building to
be of a historic nature as are the other buildings. There was also thought of converting the
carriage house into an old schoolhouse at the museum. The commission briefly discussed the
possibility of using the funds from the sale of the existing fire station #2 to move the carriage
house to the museum.
Mr. Schumann reviewed the goals of the Frostville Museum in terms of adding a schoolhouse, a
blacksmith shop, restrooms, thereby creating an area which would encourage people to visit and
be self sufficient. The Commission would like to talce photos of the home and site before the
Fire Station is started. The commission would like the historical marker to remain at the site as
well.
Mr. Schumann reviewed that he, Mr. O'Malley, Mr. & Mrs. Cadwollader, and Mrs. Knight all
attended the Cultural Activities Commission meeting to discuss Frostville hosting an art show.
As the Cultural Activities can not be the sponsors of any activities the Kiwanis Club will
sponsor the art show and the Cultural Activities Commission will help publicize the event.
Artists will be invited to participate in the juried art show and the deadline for signing up will be
April 30, 2006, however there must be a total of at least 50 artists signed up for the event to be
held. All money raised will be divided between the Kiwanis Club and Frostville Museum. It is
the hope that the art show will become an annual event. The event will be a two day event and
the price of admission for the artists will be $150.00 each which seams to be reasonable
compared to other local event application fees. The event for the general public is free. They
are hoping to have music at the event and he will keep the commission up to date as things
progress.
ADJOURNMENT:
With rlo further business pending Chairwoman Lord adjourned the meeting at 9
?
Bettv ord.
