commercial use possibly offices or hotels. Some residents voiced wanting to have community
buildings within walking distance such as coffee shop. Having a type of mix-use town center area
with a mixture of residential uses was also considered. The residential type uses were condos,
townhouses or cluster homes which would be placed in such a way to reduce curb cuts and provide
green space along the road. The proposed use could also accommodate a bike path and wallcing
trails. Discussion of Bradley Woods was to have an area to park in so that walking paths could be
used to go into the park. However she noted that the residents were not interested in having a
roadway through the neighborhood as it would be used as a cut-through. However, if park access
is provided some type of streetlight or stop sign would be needed for pedestrian safety.
Mr. Rerko asked how the park areas south of Lorain would be linked together and Ms. Schwarz
reviewed that the park like area to the east belonged to an existing homeowners association
therefore it is private. The only access would be at the intersection as a crosswalk would not be
safe. Mr. Rerko suggested bike paths along the sidewalks to have access to the northwest park.
Ms. Wenger said there would be a joint bike trail and sidewalk along the west side of the corridor.
Mr. Rerko felt the proposal was a good plan. Mr. Lasko voiced that he knew a lot of time and
studying went into the proposal by a verity of people and many modifications were made prior to
reaching what the commission is currently viewing. He knows that the plan is not just something
developed overnight it has been an on going process incorporating many recommendations and
many updates prior to being submitted for review. He personally believes that the time and efforts
put into the process was well worth the end results. Ms. Wenger advised that the plan is a guide
and not in it self zoning as there are market realities which will need to be faced and may only
happen over a long period of time. Basically it will depend on council and developers and what
they are willing to do and the plan was designed to be a guide not set in stone. The plan is a tool in
which the city can use to get to the next step which is the redevelopment.
Mr. O'Malley said he was concerned that there were no residents present and he strongly
recommended the commission table the plan and request that all abutting owners be sent a
notification of the Commission's intent to review the plan at their next meeting. Discussions
ensued regarding the merits of sending notices to each owner or not and previous meetings held
inviting public input. Mr. Lasko said that due to the significance of the plan the commission
would table the matter and give notice to area residents as well as make a public announcement.
Council Member Dailey-Jones said she has been involved throughout the process and will
encourage residents who live in her ward to come to the meeting. She would like the meeting to
be held soon as construction is progressing.
J. Lasko moved to table the Crocker Stearns Corridor Plan until July 11. G. Malone
seconded the motion.
