A'
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
PLANNING & DESIGN COMMISSION MEETING
COUNCIL CHAMBERS
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 24, 2007
7:30 PM
MINUTES
1. CAUCUS
Bryan O'Malley administered the oath of office to Donald Rerko as a new Planning and
Design Commission member. II. ROLL CALL
Present: R. Bohlmann, J. Cotner, G. Malone, J. Lasko, M. Mahoney, M. Meredith, D.
Rerko
Also Present: Kim Wenger, Planning Director; Bryan O'Malley, Asst. Law Director; Dave
Conway, Building Commissioner
III. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Mr. Lasko moved to approve the minutes for January 10, 2007, seconded by Mr.
Malone, which was unanimously approved.
IV. OLD BUSINESS
V. NEW BUSINESS
1. Victoria Plaza: 26101 Countrv Club Blvd. (WRD # 4
Ms. Wenger reported that the Board of Zoning Appeals had requested the input of the
Planning and Design Commission. Ms. Wenger advised that they make recommendations to
the BZA but that approval of the sign was not required. Mr. Conway stated that BZA was
struggling with the application of the code as written, so they felt the Planning and Design
Commission would have the expertise regarding what is appropriate for the structure. It is
close to residential property and the brightness of the sign is questionable. Mr. O'Malley
said the Planning and Design Commission has a different, less restrictive standard of review
for signage and variances.
Mr. Petro stated that they would like to have signage similar to the Westbury. The height
and area of the sign is as small as the company would propose for visibility. Illumination
would be comparable to the Westbury and would be an aqua green color. Mr. Petryshin
stated that at the logo it is 14 feet high. It has been placed on the east side of the building. It
is not facing the front or the highway or residential area. He confirmed that the ellipse
around the letters is a necessary component in the logo.
Mr. Lasko asked for clarification on the sign placement. Mr. Petro submitted additional
photos for the record, to demonstrate where the sign will be seen. Mr. Rerko questioned the
color of the sign. Outside of the sign is manor green, the inside of the sign is aqua green.
