property needs three wall signs. The variance is substantial but warranted. Mr. Menser did not
believe the character of neighborhood would not be altered. Mrs. Diver reviewed that
goverrimental services would not be altered and the owner has knowledge of the city codes. All
board members felt the spirit and intent of the code would be served granting the variance for 2
additional wall signs.
R. Menser moved to approve Key Bank of 26380 Great Northern shopping center their
request for variance (1123.12), which consists of new signs and the following variances are
granted as amended: 1). A varianee for 2 adclitional wall signs on a building, (code permits 1
applicant shows 3), section (1163.27 (a))o The total square footage of signage on the building
will be 96 sq ft. Which is in violation of Ord. 90-125 sections; (1163.27 (a)) and (1163.24 (b)).
N. Sergi seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved.
4. Randall House Properties; 4701-4763 Great Northern Blvd: (WRD #4)
Applicant request notice of appeal from the Building Commissioners determination dated Apri126,
2007 ordering the south end installed bollards removed and to install curbing and grass area per
original development plans, (per section (1123.07)).
Mr. Grendell the applicant's attorney came forward and prior to being sworn in said he wished to
address a procedure issue. His client received a letter dated July 25, 2007 from the board's clerlc
advising his client that the case was anticipated for the September meeting and they had until
August 23, to submit their application, payment and documents. Then two days later his client
received an agenda and copy of the legal notice showing they were on the August 2°a, docket. He
and liis clients are present as a courtesy but can not present their case as they haven't been given an
opportunity to submit their documents and ask the board to allow them to be placed on the
September 6th meeting doclcet.
Mr. O'1Vlalley reviewed why the applicant received both letters and advised the board to allow the
applicants request to be tabled to provide the applicant ample time to make application, pay the
required fees and submit their brief. In fact if the applicants require more time than the September
meeting date there is no violation of any code or procedure if the board chooses to grant them even
inore time. Mr. Grendell said he understood the city was acting on good faith and they respectfully
request to be tabled until the September meeting. Mrs. Diver apologized for the applicants having
to sit through the entire meeting to request to be tabled.
N. Sergi moved to table Randall House Properties of 4701-4763 Great Northern Blvd their
request for an appeal from the Building Commissioners determination dated Apri126, 2007
until the Septemlber 6`h, BZA meeting. M. Diver seconded the anotion which was
unanimously approved.
V. COMMUNICATIONS:
The.clerk was asked to report to the board at their September meeting on their request to be
provided ID's or business cards so they can provide homeowners identification for being on their
property for the city.
Mrs. IDiver said that she was made aware that there may be a conflict of timing in receiving
paclcets and having enough time to visit the sites. The board members packets were mailed out
this month and most of the members received their packets 3 days before the meeting which does
not allow them enough time to visit each site. She and Mrs. Sergi contacted other cities to find out
8
