Historical Society on this project. Phil said the idea is to help the community and he thought this
was a better idea than simply collecting cans or stuffed animals. This work would leave more of
a legacy. Mr. Thomas said William Stark, a former Metropark Ranger and local civil war
historian, noticed that many veterans' graves were not honored with flags on Memorial Day and
wanted to know who organized that work. Mr. Schumann believes the Boy Scouts place the
flags. Mr. Thomas suggested it would be a worthwhile addition to Phil's project to work with
Mr. Stark to compile a list of veterans buried in the City cemeteries. He would be happy to
introduce Phil to Mr. Stark. Mr. Thomas will e-mail the SITES advisors on Phil's behalf with
Mr. Stark's contact information.
Mr. Dubowski moved, seconded by Mr. Thomas, that the Landmarks Commission support
Phil Tomko in his cemetery project through SITES in anyway they can, which was
unanimously approved.
COMMUNICATIONS
Mayor O'Gradv's correspondence with Mr. Henrv Trapp of New Hope, Pennsvlvania
Mr. Schumann acknowledged Mr. Trapp's letter and Mayor O'Grady's reply.
Invitation to the Education Foundation A Taste of Excellence Event
Mr. Schumann encouraged everyone to attend this event. This means 2009 will be the 100 year anniversary of
the Village of North Olmsted. Mr. Schock suggested this information would be useful in
community event themes in 2009 such as Homecoming. This information will be passed on to
the City administration and Community Council. Various historical dates, names for the area,
and early settlers were discussed.
