Mr. Lasko moved, seconded by Mrs. Meredath, to table Hampton Inn located on SW
corner of Country Club Slvcl & Columbia Road with following conditions:
1. All documents pertaining to cross access easements with neighboring site it to be
submitted to the Law Department.
2. Evergreens are to be planted at 8 feet tall.
3. The scaling for both the mound and dry detention basins are to be shown.
4. The forester's report of preservation of trees is to be cortnpleted.
Motion was unanimously approved 5-0.
NEW BUSINESS
COMS08-0002: Save-A-Lot; 23000 Lorain Road (Ward 2)
Representatives: Kathy Duffy, Save a Lot; George Draeger, representative for Rini Realty
Ms. Wenger said the proposal consisted of renovating the vacant building for Save A Lot and
Goodwill. Building changes consists of painting the metal canopy tan, new signage and
landscape materials at each curb cut. At May's pre-submission meeting Ms. Duffy and Mr.
Draeger were offered recommendations including considering parking lot landscape islands,
removing front row parking to increase the front landscape setback, enhancing landscaping
throughout the site, adding briclcscape along Lorain Road, replacing west side chain link fence,
repairing wooden fencing, provide details on how and where Goodwill donations would be
dropped off. While some new landscaping is proposed no other recommendations were
incorporated. Ms. Wenger relayed that Mr. Rerlco's comments regarding the roof color were
incorporated into the plan.
Mr. Conway said details pertaining to donation drop off were still needed as well as an
accurately scaled site plan. Required parking is 182 spaces and the last plans on record show
217 spaces. The small scaled site plan looks to restripe the site and added additional spaces
including seven parallel spaces which are not permitted Uy code. The widths of the spaces
couldn't be determined therefore an accurate parking count is unattainable. Mr. Collins said he
was in favor of requiring the brickscape along Lorain Road as it would enhance the appearance.
Ms. Duffy said their intent is to repaint the existing metal roof with a color that matches the color
of the brick accents already on the building. Their sign meets city codes and is currently on the
building. Mr. Draeger said the Goodwill space was still being fitted and turnover was expected
within a week and a Goodwill sign package would be submitted at a later date. Mr. Lasko asked
where the owner stood in addressing the site improvements mentioned. Mr. Draeger said the
owner agreed to install a few landscape beds along Lorain Road. Mr. Lasko asked if the
brickscape plan would be installed. Mr. Draeger said he would review all the recommendations
with the owners after the meeting and noted that the chain linlc fence was scheduled to be
replaced with a wooden fence. .
Mr. Malone said although there was an effort to add some landscaping, the plan is lacking
substance considering its part of the gateway into the city. The front parking spaces should be
removed for green space and briclcscape should be incorporated. Landscape islands could be
fitted into the parlcing lot at the end and middle of each parking row. Ms. Wenger said although
4
