Mr. Kepperley said he felt the Cake & Ice Cream Social Friday night in the Big Tent at
Homecoming went very well and that Olmsted Historical Society President Paul Schumann did a
great job with his presentation on the history of North Olmsted. Mr. Wahl agreed. He would
also like to thank Planning Director Wenger for facilitating the use of banners around the city.
NEW BUSINESS
Artful Murder, Cemeterv Improvement Proiect Fundraisin?
Mr. Wahl asked what the Cemetery Project has to do with the Cultural Activities Commission
and, to avoid overlap, what other committees are involved. Ms. Martindale said the Landmarks
Commission is involved. Mr. Yustick does not believe the project should be tied-in with the
plays, to which all agreed. Ms. Martindale understands the difficulty in raising funds for a
cemetery however she is already asking people to donate for the play and does not want to ask
for a second donation. Her intention is to keep the Dover Player performances free to encourage
people who would not normally exper'ience theatre to attend. Donations are voluntary. Each
play needs to cover the cost of the director, costumes, and incidentals. The fundraising ideas
submitted by the Planning Department were discussed. A mention in the program and a
collection jar is acceptable, but Ms. Martindale does not feel she should need to create or add to
ticket costs. Neither does she feel a poster combining the two would be appropriate. The
recommendation to involve Frostville's Haunted Trail was not understood. Mr. Kepperley feels
having brochures and a donation can is sufficient. He said the cemetery project and committee
was still in a very young stage in their planning. Mr. Yustick recommended adding a donation
envelope or address to the brochure.
Holidav Lighting Contest 2009
Mr. Yustick recommended that those entering the contest be required to take their own
photographs for submittal with their entry form, to which all agreed. After reviewing the photos
the best entries can then be visited in person to determine the winners. Mr. Yustick
recommended a photographer be consulted for suggestions on taking those types of photos and
including the tips in the flyer. Ms. Martindale said that due to her event schedule she will be
unable to participate in the contest. Mr. Wahl will review the flyer and submit recommended
revisions at the October meeting. Concerning prizes, Mr. Kepperley is disinclined to solicit
businesses for prizes as they get so many requests. Mr. Wahl liked the Things Remembered
engraved ornaments and certificate from the Mayor that were presented last year. Mr. Kepperley
said he did not think the City had the budget to purchase prizes. Mr. Wahl suggested if the City
could not'provide the prizes then maybe the contest should be cancelled this year. Mr.
Kepperley said he would approach Community Council concerning the prizes.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Dover Players Update
