CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />CULTURAL ACTIVITIES COMMISSION <br />MEETING MINUTES OF JUNE 3, 2009 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Chair Yustick called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the North Olmsted High School office. <br />Present: Gerald Yustick, Beverle Martindale, David Wahl, John Kepperley, Faye Curry <br />Absent: Barbara Brown <br />Also Present: Lisa Nemeth of North Coast Promotions, Landmarks Chairman Paul Schumann, <br />Chelsea Schumann of Arts Enterprise <br />I2EVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />Mr. Kepperley moved, seconded by Ms. Martindale, to approve the minutes of May 6, 2009, <br />which were approved, 4-0. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />2009 Juried Arts & Crafts Festival <br />Mr. Kepperley submitted information on two new applicants. One applicant intends to sell <br />pottery and possibly jewelry; this will be clarified. Almost 70 pieces of artwork by the North <br />Olmsted High School students have been selected for display at the festival. Mr. Kepperley sent <br />a letter of congratulations to the students through the High School. If the students object to <br />leaving their artwork at the school, they may take it home and deliver the artwork to the festival <br />site. Display racks with shelving units have been purchased by Kiwanis to present the students' <br />work. The display racks will be donated to Frostville with the condition that Kiwanis may use <br />them for Homecoming. Ms. Nemeth will check with Tower City on the availability of additional <br />display racks for sale. Ms. Nemeth submitted information on three new artists. One is for glass <br />and lap bead work. Another entry is for mixed media. The artist is best known for using <br />stainless steel antique silverware to make angel pins. The artist also works with clay and <br />driftwood. The third artist creates wall hangings from metals and other materials. Example <br />photos or pieces were shown for each artist. Ms. Nemeth submitted copies of contracts to Mr. <br />Kepperley. Ms. Nemeth will create a flyer design for review. NIr. Kepperley is in the process of <br />designing a reminder postcard. Mr. Schumann, Ms. Schumann and Ms. Nemeth offered <br />assistance in distributing flyers. Mr. Kepperley is also worlcing on writing an article for the <br />Metroparks Emerald Necklace newsletter. <br />(Note: Mrs. Curry arrived.) <br />Ms. Martindale knows a portrait painter and instructor. She has discussed with the artist the <br />possibility of having her students present their work at the festival. Ms. Martindale will forwaxd <br />the artist an application.
