CITY OF N012TgI OLMSTED
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES COMMISSION
1VIEETING MINUTES OF MARCH 4, 2009
ROLL CAI,L
Vice Chair Martindale called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. at the North Olmsted Branch
Library.
Present: Beverle Martindale, David Wahl, John Kepperley, Faye Curry
Absent: Gerald Yustick
Also Present: Barbara Brown, Jimar Curry
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Mr. Kepperley moved, seconded by Ms. Curry, to approve the minutes of February 4, 2009, as
corrected, which were approved, 4-0.
OLD BUSINESS
2009 Juried Arts & Crafts Festival
Mr. Kepperley has received no applications to date though he has mailed and e-mailed many
applications forms. The application fee is $50.00. The lack of applicants is not a concern; at this
time last year he had received two applications. A reminder postcard will be mailed in late May.
It is unlcnown if the City of North Olmsted will have a tent at the art show for the Village
Centennial. Neither the City nor the school system would be charged for the space. It was
recommended and agreed that the May 6h Cultural Activities Commission meeting would be
held in the high school office, time to be determined, before judging the school art show exhibits.
Refreshments will be served. Mr. Kepperley would prefer the art work selected for presentation
at the Juried Arts & Crafts Festival be stored at the school instead of the students taking their
projects home for the summer.
Black Historv Month
On February 9th the Cuyahoga County Community College Afro Caribbean Ensemble
performed. On February 18t' the presentation on the Underground Railroad was cancelled due to
the presenter being ill. Ms. Curry suggested that next year the presentation be scheduled for
earlier in the month to leave time for rescheduling if necessary. On February 19th the "Let's Talk
About..." presentation for children from the Youth Enrichment Program drew eight children and
four adults. The presenters, Program Director Annette Pryor and Assistant Director Brenda
Pryor, read a story about black history and inventions. The children also participated in an
activity with playdough.
