INTRODUCTION <br />City of North Olmsted Landmarks Commission <br />Annual Report 2009 <br />The mission of the Landmarks Commission is to protect, preserve and perpetuate the structures <br />and districts which reflect the City's heritage. The Commission encourages education and <br />creates an environment that promotes the community s historic sites, events and citizens in order <br />to foster civic pride. <br />LAIVDMARKS COMMISSION MEMBERS <br />Paul Schumann, Chairman <br />Thomas Schock. Vice Chairman <br />Maryellen Davis <br />Thomas Dubowski <br />Jeffrey Herwick <br />CERTIFICATES OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Any homeowner in the Historic District <br />who wishes to make an alteration or <br />addition to their property must apply to <br />the Landmarks Commission for a <br />Certificate of Appropriateness (COA). ? <br />The number of requests for Certificates ? <br />of Appropriateness in 2009 was similar j <br />to previous years. Due to a higher level <br />of organization and clearer parameters <br />within the Landmarks Commission, <br />homeowners' applications have <br />continued to be handled skillfully. The <br />Commission's membership, combined <br />experience, and continued application of <br />the federal guidelines remain contributing factors. <br />John J. Lasko, Jr. <br />Lawrence Orlowski <br />Donald Rerko <br />Dale Thomas <br />Certificates of Appropriateness 2000-2009 <br />The most important business before the Commission in 2009 was a request by the North Olmsted <br />City Schools for a COA for the demolition of the annex building of the North Olmsted Middle <br />School. This topic is still under consideration. Representatives of the Commission will be <br />meeting with architects and school administration personnel for an overall improvement plan for <br />the Middle School campus in the Historic District in 2010. <br />2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009
